    I just wont bother with it - its more work than its worth. I'm probably better off finding another job with another company

    I think you've answered your own question with the sentence highlighted above. It seems to me the Agency are advertising the full role hence the higher salary quoted. The role you would be taking would not be performing all the duties hence the lower salary. The Company have probably done it this way to hedge their bets!!! They don't think you have the necessary qualifications/experience to fulfil all of the duties on the J.D. but if they can't get anyone suitable from the agency then they will give it to you on the lower salary with your manager performing the remaining duties that you've not got the qualifications/experience for.

    Unfortunately, no, this is not the case. My manager would not take on some of the role himself. The fact is, its cheaper for him to promote internally (no agency fees) and salary wise he can then go to his boss and demonstrate hes made some savings. I think I know where I am going with this now, and I'm just going to say if there's no more money then I'm not interested in applying - the role is bigger with more responsibility, I cant justify applying if there's no more moolah. Im not prepared to take the extra stress with the role if there's no 'whats in it for me'.

    Bit short sighted. I would suspect the higher grade would be useful to have on your CV if nothing else.

    I agree. Even if you don't get a higher salary it's quite likely that you would eventually be able to get a job with a higher salary elsewhere, in light of having taken on extra responsibilities. You would need to stay in the promoted role for a while though before looking elsewhere.
