There is no inventory, the landlord can not do anything. If it went to court he would lose, there is no dual signed proof on the state of the property when you took out the tenancy. Therefore it can not be proven beyond reasonable doubt that it was worse than when you moved in
The depositing of the deposit in an approved scheme is a separate issue.
Personally, I would not go back to the property with or without the LL.I am a LandLord,(under review) so there!:p0 -

is, I think, what you mean"If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools"
Extract from "If" by Rudyard Kipling0 -
I suppose I'm just concerned he may trash it after we have revealed our intentions re the deposit. Ie after Sunday.0

He can trash the property all he likes, won't make a blind bit of difference, just means he'll end up paying more out of his own pocket putting it right again.0

Have contacted the LL and requested details of what exactly the problem is along with who the deposit is protected by. I don't anticipate a response tbh.0

Make sure you keep a copy of your request. If it was online, then print out a copy in case you have IT problems later (these always seem to arise at the most inconvenient time!)0 -
It was via text which I know isn't ideal but I don't have a reliable email address and at least it's some sort of written communication which is time and date stamped.0
