parents 25 year wedding anniversary

Options
right, my parents have been married 25 years in december & my grandad seems to be expecting me and my sister to plan something for them..

but neither of us have any ideas.

i want something cheap and quite simple, my parents arnt really party people and when they do have parties my dad gets overly drunk which winds my mum up which isnt the idea in this situation! (wedding anniversary and divorce anniversary on one day may end up happening else!)

help meeeee... :D im the eldest so i think my younger sister is looking to me for ideas, although shes the one working & without a family whilst still living with them so will have a little more money to put towards it, but im sure my grandad will also make up any shortfall money wise. but i would really like it to be as cheap as possible without looking cheap.

Don't see the point in arranging a party for people who don't really like parties.

Couldn't you just have a nice family meal at a restaurant...how many people are you talking about as that will make a difference to what people suggest.

Could you arrange for them to have a lovely weekend away just the two of them...and then arrange maybe flowers/champagne on their arrival they might prefer that as after all it is their anniversary, you don't have to involve everyone else on the planet.

However, if you want really cheap you are limited. Maybe hire the village hall but that then it becomes a party and your Dad might spoil it for your Mum.

Well its my 25th anniversary next year and I don't like parties either.

Personally I would prefer for a meal with close family and a mini holiday somewhere -do you know where they spent their honeymoon for example?

Alternatively what about hiring a cottage and again just immediate family going? In some cottages you can have spa treatments and chefs cooking you a special meal etc?

It's your parents' day - do what's right for them.

What your grandad expects shouldn't over-ride what they would like.

  • We've just celebrated our 25th - and whilst I am a party person, not when it comes to me/us being the centre of attention!

I feel anniversaries are special to the couple, but not necessarily to others.

How about arranging a get-together with close family, and do all the organising yourselves so that your parents just have to dress up a bit and enjoy everyone's company?

It doesn't have to cost much, will take a bit of organising but not much, and will make them feel special and cared about.

Private room at a local pub/restaurant? Share the costs between you children & grandparents?

ps - The children of some of our friends have also done things like video compilations of the story of Mum & Dad over the years, or each stood up and told a story of a bit of their lives with memorable incidents with a photo board running through their years together. Takes a bit of effort (and sneaking around to keep it secret), but doesn't cost much. Usually much laughter about fashions and how everyone has changed, but also makes a lovely present/keepsake.
