Backdating payments?

Hi

I left my son's father 10 years ago when my son was a year old. I began claiming income support and they automatically made a claim for child support. Unfortunately, my ex-partner moved house and made sure i did not know his new address. A couple of weeks ago, i found out his address and made a claim myself. Can they back date the claim to 10 years ago or will it be the fresh one only?

Was the old case closed down or just suspended? If it was suspended you can ask for it to be unsuspended and they could ask him for his details back that far but it hinges on whether they sent him the original MEF to a confident address. If he never got one or it never got sent, then the answer would be that it would be starting from now. If they never sent one, you need to establish if this was because he was untraceable by them - if so then it won't be backdated.

I have no idea. Its procedure that they put a claim through, when you first claim income support. Seems a bit unfair though. I have brought our son up for 10 years with no help from him, deliberately.

You can find out by ringing them - they will check the system to see what status your claim was.

If your on benefits you are obliged to give the DWP details of the other parent of the child or children . If you dont it could mean that you lose some of your benefits . I thought that this meant that they automatically sent the details of the non resident parent to the CSA but it dosnt. If I,m not mistaken you have to apply yourself for the forms .
I made this mistake eleven years ago and have now only been able to claim from 2005
Still heck out Kellogs advice as you may of actually made the claim.

Years ago though it was different and the PWC had to complete a MAF which they don't these days. If I were the OP I would be calling the CSA and asking what action was taken as they may have unsuspended it recently in order to try and trace the NRP.

omg what a money grabber gold digging omg...well no they will not back date it only to the day you made a claim. there is a limitation when they can back date it now look at the child support regulations.

hope to god your x gets away paying nothing.

The mind boggles dosnt it ? Maybe he,s one of the absent parents that is hiding from the CSA and dosnt have a job to go to and is bored.
With friends like this who need enemies !!!!!
