Free Drink for ladies only

Options
Hi,

I have found a new app called Drinki.

My friend and I used it and got a free cocktail each in a bar called Gilt near Fenchurch street. Ladies can have a free drink every day at each bar listed on the app.

Sounds like a win win to me

    Must have Facebook.

    http://www.drinki.com/

    Description
    A Drinki is always free.

The brand new app for women that will show the closest bars where you’ll be served a FREE cocktail. Simple.

    How does it work?
    1. Download the app and login with Facebook
    2. Check our map for your nearest bar to get your FREE Drinki.
    3. Receive your FREE cocktail and Drinki automatically checks you in on Facebook. ENJOY!

As you receive your FREE cocktail, your bartender will check you in via Drinki’s unique system. Nothing more will be posted to your facebook timeline.

Offers available on our system are exclusively sourced by the Drinki team, and allow our members to find the closest free cocktail and provide details of the cocktail on offer.

We are dedicated to providing the best service and experience to our members, so bars are prohibited from charging an entrance fee or any other covert form of charge to make up for the free cocktail. We have provided all members with a ‘bar problems’ area on the app which empowers them to raise complaints against again bar which acts inappropriately.

Members need to be 18 years old or over and must use a Facebook account to register with Drinki.

The app allows users full anonymity from having their contact details disclosed to the bars, and allows them to register a complaint using the app if need be.

I thought the 70s had ushered in a utopia of equality?

Reminds me of the old joke :

Paddy says to his mate "Hey, there's a great new pub in town. You go there, you get drinks bought for you all night, no need to spend a penny. Then at the end of the evening someone takes you back to their house, and you get to have sex all night"

"Sounds great", says his mate, "Have you been there yet ?"

"No", says Paddy, "But my sister goes all the time".

I wonder if they can actually enforce the women-only thing, if a guy turned up and said it was discrimination...

Section 13(1) of the Equality Act 2010 states:
(1)A person (A) discriminates against another (B) if, because of a protected characteristic, A treats B less favourably than A treats or would treat others.

    Section 4
    makes sex a protected characteristic.

Section 29(1) of the Equality Act 2010 states:
(1)A person (a “service-provider”) concerned with the provision of a service to the public or a section of the public (for payment or not) must not discriminate against a person requiring the service by not providing the person with the service.
Putting all that together leaves us with:
(1)A person (a “service-provider”) concerned with the provision of a service to the public or a section of the public (for payment or not) must not [because of their sex], treat B less favourably than A treats or would treat others by not providing the person with the service.
It's a little bit convoluted, but hopefully it's clear enough. I would imagine that no, it is not allowed.

    So.....:

    * pubs that have 'ladies nights'
    * dating agencies that don't charge ladies
    * women only wards in hospitals

There are exceptions to the leglislation, but it's not always clear where or why.....
