LOL Southerscouser!! :T:rotfl:
Good luck you sound like you have had your LBM! - Lynz's idea sounds like a good one - could you manage to do that?
I think writing stuff down does you good too - even if you only manage to get £20 off a card each month you will see the amount going down and it will really motivate you.
Good luck hun.0 -
Echoing the thought from s/e person earlier - I am PAYE, but trying to think in terms of how many hours I would have to put in in a McJob (ie minimum wage and awful) to cover cost of what I am about to spend.
It helps. Telling myself off right now as during the week I frittered over an "hour" of my time in effect. Ie I spent about £5 on 3 drinks and a newspaper (none of which I particularly even wanted). Not much - but I would have had to work in a McJob for over an hour to earn that money.0 -
Hi
My tip is do not take your children shopping with you. Saves me a fortune :rotfl: :rotfl:

i do loads of the above really (good advice guys)... firstly i have a bills account ~ 2 savings accounts ~ one spending account, on payday i do loads of transferring and in the end i am left with £80 for my spends per month and then roughly £40 for weekly spends, thats it once its gone its gone

i write down everything ~ that £10 game, that 35p stamp, that 5p lollypop :rotfl: once you see you are spending £30 a month on odd food here and there or £40 feeding your games console habit it kinda puts pay to your spending patterns
the only other methods i use are ~ stick a pic of whatever you want (high value ie car/house/holiday) next to your pc/in your wallet each time you think about buying something look at the pic and you wont spend money
in theory  and working out how many hours/days i have to work to aford it... soon put me off buying a coat for £65 when you can buy one for £20 :rotfl:
good luck but you need to find something that works for you, you are getting there re the nintendo ds, have some faith in yourself :T0 -
I have tried writing stuff down on numerous occasions but it never works for me.
So I have to make sure that I do not have access to the money. Leave my purse at home, or only take a certain amount of cash to the supermarket etc. That way I can only spend what I need to spend, not what I get carried away with on impulse!
Also, for me , to check online banking every day is a real good way for me to keep on top of things - once I stop doing this I find that we are well over our overdraft limit. got to have your eye on the ball all the time!!
But of course, if supergluing your hands to your willy works for you, then do that :rotfl:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

:rotfl: Just choked on my tea :rotfl:
I'd second what everyone else has said, all worth trying - also try setting yourself a weekly budget and keep track, I used to waste lots on buying odds and ends.. now I do the weekly challenge on here and it really makes me think about what I'm spending. For some reason posting it up on here in front of a load of people I've never met makes me feel I have some sort of responsibility to be honest about how much I've spent and feel a sense of achievement if I come in under target!

Considering how many times you answer threads on these forums, you must spend your whole life being excited !
