Cash gifts instead of wedding cards? £100's!

Hi everyone,

For your upcoming wedding, would you prefer to get what all those wedding cards cost to put towards a flat screen TV or the honeymoon, instead of the cards themselves?

We have a new website that allows you to request that family and friends send you what they would have spent on greeting cards, for your special occasions.

You could still have guests sign a guestbook with special messages.

Wedding cards aren't cheap, with most people spending roughly £3 at least. If you had 300 couples at your wedding, that's 150 cards at £3 = £450!!

Note that I haven't named the site or posted the link as I am not sure what the etiquette here is on money saving expert.

I would still love to hear from brides to be if that is something you would use or not.

I think it might seem a bit rude to some people. Eg don't get me a card just give me money!

I think a lot of people send cards because they want to send a heartfelt message. I certainly don't think "ooh i've got a budget of £50 for this person, better only spend £47 on the present so I can buy them a card too". For me the card is an extra I send because I want them to have my best wishes.

However I do think it's a good idea. I would definitely use it for children instead of sending a card in the post. I think there needs to be an area where you can type a little message along with the money though as just sending the money seems a little cold and unthoughtful to me.

I do see the point about all that money wasted, but I'd never send something like that to guests as it would feel impolite. I'd also rather they donated any money that would have been spent on a card to charity and wrote a little note on paper instead!

I don't keep birthday cards or Christmas cards, however my wedding cards are in our 'wedding box' and so I would prefer the card.

I would not say don't buy a card, give us the money instead. The messages in the cards are wonderful to re-read.

I'd prefer a card too, another little reminder to look back on.

I got married last year and kept all our cards. I would rather have them than a flat screen TV. The cost of them isn't really relevant IMO - it's the sentiment and reminder of the day that's priceless.

We had a guestbook too, but it's not quite the same.

I asked my Dad to stop getting me a card for my birthday because he didn't agree with them and neither did I. End day they only end up in the bin... (but felt he couldn't not get his daughter a card)

NEVER in a million years would I ask him for the money he would of spent on it...that is pure madness.
