Good Afternoon
This morning I received a letter (notice of intent to commence debt collection action) from Advantis Credit Limited regarding an outstanding balance of £622 owed to SSE. This was for a property where I was not liable for bills as they were included in rent in 2012. I must explain when I rented this property I was homeless and I was offered a room in a house with 4 other men by an illegal unregistered landlord cash in hand for £30 a week, we had no valid lease just a letter he printed himself and asked us to sign but It was all I could get so I took it.
This is where it gets complicated, I have been in contact with SSE to advise I was not liable for the bills to that property as it should have been the landlord however SSE have advised that the landlord changed the bills into my name.
My question is how can this be done as the landlord was not legally registered and so had no right to change the name on the bills to mine? Also should SSE not have checked this as I never had contact with them or signed a contract with them?
Please help, any advice would be greatly appreciated, this is pretty stressful

Advantis are a debt collection agency, remind them of the oft guidelines inregards to disputed debt and tell them to prove you were liable.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

OFT and their guidelines no longer exist. It is the FCA and their rules now.

If necessary, demand that SSE produce the documentation that you signed requesting the change into your name."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
