  • From what I've read on the forums santander / abbey / alliance and Leicester have long delays. Certainly our experience with them is that if the underwriters request any additional documentation or query anything on your application you end up at the back of the queue.
We are into our ninth week of waiting for a final decision on lending now. :(
Make sure all of your documents are water tight before sending over.

    Hi
What docs did you have to send
  • Getting to the underwriter seems to take the most time as Santander set up the application prior to it joining the queue. In my case the to-ing and fro-ing took 3 weeks but once it made it to the underwriter they took less than 48 hours to approve with the valuation being carried out 48 hours later. My broker sent over 3 pay slips, 3 months bank statements and ID.

I think Santander are currently quoting a 21 day turnaround to offer which I don't think is too bad.. I'm on day 30 and hoping to get the offer in the post very soon...

I would probably suggest using a broker with Santander , as they are very picky with documents and it does take a lot of leg work getting them approved all the time .

I think we was around a month from Full App to Valuation with Broker.

It does depend to a degree who does the phone interview if going direct. We didn't have a completely straightforward case (partner on maternity), but the advisor knew exactly the documentation we'd need to satisfy the underwriters and made sure everything was in order before she submitted the full application. She explicitly said "I want to make sure we've got everything the underwriters could possibly ask for so we don't have to come back for further documents and go to the back for the queue."
