Tooth extraction

Hi all,
A filling fell out the other day because the tooth has split in two.
No pain...yet, but my private dentist wants £400 to remove it. It's at the top back next to the wisdom tooth and I doubt I will miss it.
Can I get this done cheaper somehow, or on the NHS? I'm in NW London.
Thanks for any advice!

Hooooooooooooooooow much!!
Is he kidding?
I had a root canal which failed and broke and had it removed (nhs) for the normal cost - about £42 or so about a year ago.
Good luck.

You probably could get it done on the nhs but you'd be in for a wait!0

Look for an NHS dentist in your area here

Extraction is £50.50.0 -
Thanks all, I'll start looking! What do I if it becomes an emergency?0

That's expensive, if it's just an extraction, I don't pay that much, privately.0

If you went in as an emergency, the band a cost is around £19.
You would then go on a course of band B treatment. The dentist wouldn't just treat that one tooth.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

This does seem very expensive. It's a lot more than I charge! But have we got the full story?
Are you a regular patient with that dentist and have you been recently for a routine examination?
If you're not a regular patient, just one who turns up when you out have a problem, then the dentist would need to do quite a detailed examination, and possibly x-rays, to document everything that might be going on in your mouth before focusing in on actually taking out the broken tooth.
This would obviously be a bigger job, and more than just taking out one tooth.
But yes, if that were done on the NHS it would be a band 2 charge of about £44How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Without seeing the tooth it is also possible that it has broken in such a way that it may need a surgical extraction. If that is the case then you may need to be referred on for treatment , which , as others have indicated , may well necessitate a wait.
£400 is more than anyone I know charges for a simple extraction. However a thorough exam, x rays , emergency treatment and a surgical extraction etc and you might be getting there.0 -

I had a tooth out in late 2012. I paid £65. Quite painless to what I was expecting. Even complex extractions shouldnt cost more than £120 from what I can see.
Im in London too"enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0
