EdF won't return my money

EdF put up my direct debit with them some time ago, and I've gradually been building a credit with them. It's now up to £350.
Given that it's May, and the winter has passed, I asked for it to be returned.
Their response is pretty patronising, about how they are doing me a favour and making sure that I don't end up with a big debt which I won't be able to pay. How they smooth things, and how it should balance over the year etc.
The final response is that they only review the DD annually, and as there are two months until the renewal date, if they refund £300 to me, they will simply put up the DD by an additional £150 each month to get the money back again.
I'm about to move house. If it wasn't for that, I'd be immediately cancelling my supply from them and going elsewhere.
Winge over!

This doesn't sound right and I would guess that you are getting a automated/semi-automated response that is designed for much smaller discrepancies.
You should post in the appropriate forum for some solid advice on how to proceed. You might find that if you respond their initial response your problem may be looked at by a human operative who will know how to override the automatic system. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
i was with them for years and they do not review the ddm annually, every month i gave a meter reading and they reviewed my ddm . I would suggest that you persist and request your monies back0
