...pay them 3-6 months rent upfront...

That's a good idea but why should you or I do that? What's the difference between us and non-BR tenants? Where is the evidence that risk of non-payment of rent is higher for ex-BR tenants?
I recently took part in CBT - 2 sessions and I was signed off, didn't realise my strength, wow to that type of thinking, just a quick burst reminded me of how far I've come and how it is possible to look back and see achievements even the tinyest ones, why what happened, happened

Anyway appreciate that is not what your asking but never regret anything that see's you where you are now, I'd bet your life has improved somehow, sometimes the only person holding us back is us

As a letting agent and then someone accessing my application for a job said why did you need to tell me that? (ok I'm being far politer really as to what was said) in a cruel to be kind way

Thank you. I lost my job during recession when the company I worked for went bust but I moved to another city, started looking, worked hard in securing contracts (and contacts!) and managed to find a job. In financial terms, I started from zero to where I am now. So I guess both would be termed as an achievement.

But... why is BR still an issue now? The "achievements" I made do not seem to have any affect or considered, e.g. 0% finance, letting agency, joint-mortgage.

PS: Forgive my ignorance but what is CBT?

Just had a thought - if BR gets dropped off from CRF, does it mean that when letting agencies do a credit check, they wouldn't be aware of BR history?

Or would they do a thorough check like Insolvency Registrar, Gazzette, etc.?

CBT=cognitive behavioural therapy, it's a talking therapy with a specially trained healthcare professional. I too can vouch for it, I had six sessions on the NHS when I lost my job 6 years ago in pretty horrible circumstances. It's a way of analysing how your thoughts and beliefs make you act and feel and challenging them when they are destructive and replacing them with more a more positive way of thinking that then improves how you view life's upsets and to cope with things better when things go wrong....the six sessions that I had, I can honestly say, changed my life cos it's a technique which always stays with you...when things go wrong in my life now or I'm unhappy with something, I now face it full on and am much more proactive about doing something/finding solutions to make it better rather than what I did before, which was to get so anxious and worked up about it that I just buried my head in the sand. I'm not saying it's the answer for everyone, but for me it really worked!

And yeah, why should we have to offer 3-6 months rent up front?! I didn't have to when I rented my flat, but in the future if it seals the deal on any future property I want to rent then I, assuming I can afford to, I wouldn't think twice about offering to do so....after all, there's nothing I can do about my bankruptcy sitting on my credit file for 6 years so all I can do is be open and bargain with any future letting agency/landlord if I know they are going to credit check me and show them proof that I've been a completely model tenant before

Once your bankruptcy drips off your credit file, then it won't show up on a credit check and there should be no problems with renting from a letting agency if your credit file is cleaned up and you're showing up as good risk...I wouldn't expect any letting agent to check the London Gazette

Ah I see - the closest thing I could think of with CBT was something to do with motorbikes!

This "positive thought approach" sounds interesting, I guess it is something that we all already possess and it was just a question of finding the right gear to switch it. I think my "disability" helped with that - every wall I stumbled upon, I just break it down with a jackhammer. That hammer is getting worn out now....

It is really frustrating that other people and organisations keep bringing up the negatives - like how Bill Murray feels in Groundhog Day!

Glad to hear that you are in a great position though. :)

Also good to hear that once BR drops off, nobody needs to know and I don't need to mention it ever again (unless it is a mortgage application).

I wish I had the power to change the regulations so that old BRs are completely disregarded especially after many years of good "behaviour". One mistake in the past shouldn't be a mark for life. :(

Be aware, sometimes nasty folk like some insurers may ask 'have you ever been bankrupt?'

Bankruptcy is permanently on public record [London gazette], and can be accessed by those who know how, or have a need.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

Which is a bit unfortunate and serves no real purpose.
