Online shopping idea, has anyone tried it or is it bad...

Hello, I'm Ian.

Basically, I am looking for engagement rings for my fianc!e and I have found a dealer which supplies some nice looking 'build your own' rings.

One thing I have found on their website is a spelling mistake, or more of a word missing.. I'm now trying to think of a way to write what I want on here without sounding like a completely bad egg :naughty:

In some way could I contact them informing them that I have discovered a mistake and whether they would be willing to offer a discount on a ring as a 'reward' for my effort...?

The more I think about how to word the above the more I make it sound like blackmail or something... Just seeing whether anyone has done anything similar or whether it is a bit of a no-no...

I'd steer clear of a website which is not professionally edited if it's asking for prices in the range of wedding rind prices.

I'd also suggest paying for the ring properly rather than trying to pull a fast-one, I'm probably too superstitious for my own good but all it makes me think is bad karma...

You're the one in CUCKOO LAND :D

I did exactly this a few years ago.

It wasn't a "fly by night" company but a relatively big one with a very very good reputation and a very professional website ....

    BUT there WAS AN ERROR.

I pointed it out in a "low key" way with some sort of hint (can't exactly remember how - I'm seeing if I still have the email somewhere) about if there could be a reward for discovering and reporting this.

The lady responsible for the website information was "OVER THE MOON" for the feedback and even "apologised" for her mistake.

She offered me a very nice product worth over £25, which I was interested in that was connected to the error in question (which is how I found the it in the first place) saying how grateful she was.

We exchanged a couple more emails where I praised her very friendly and "professional" customer service response etc. ....

... and then "CHEEKILY" tugged at her heartstrings a little further explaining how disappointed my OH would be at not having one also and the jealousy mine would create.

She commented on my "enterprising suggestion" amusingly and immediately agreed to send me TWO :T

So job done. A product I was interested in buying a pair of, provided FREE of charge (worth nearly £60 including P&P) for pointing out a very minor error on the company's website

I never claimed my English was perfect :p Despite spending probably too much of my time regurgitating various English texts during many school days, I can wholeheartedly say they taught me nothing, I still can't spell to save my life and my frequent mistakes and errors could easily win prizes for their daftness :D

But if I was perfect I wouldn't be me :)

How much do I get for pointing out the error in your post? :T
