Need advice on cleaning a whole fabric sofa

Hi all, I'm in Bulgaria (so don't have access to so many things that could help) and need some advice please. I have been offered a nice sofabed (that I've been after, mine is to small), its in good nick but its cream and grubby. I have no steam cleaner, only elbow grease and dertermination (sp?). Can anyone help with ideas on how to scrub it up please? Any old style tips. I only have a couple of days to decide, the guy wants rid, small payment, or is going to burn it! HELP...................

I've never tried it but what about vinegar dishwashing liquid and an iron.

    Alternatively could you cover it?

The main thing is to not get it too wet. Try a paste of washing powder with a small amount of water. And rub hard. Let it dry, hoover off the dry powder residue and then wipe over with a damp cloth - you'll have to do this bit several times to 'rinse' the powder out. Don't just spot clean the dirty bits - clean the whole lot, otherwise you'll get 'tidemarks' between the cleaned and uncleaned areas.

Yes, exactly, isn't very hard to work out is it? How does it affect the question asked?
