Hi Ed, I hope you are feeling better.
Relating to a couple of pages back, we pay £90ish a month to $ky with a reduction  we have the full package. Mr AJM watches all theseries and eurosport (ony available on $ky I believe) funds my winter sport obsession so it is a must. I would love to reduce the cost but it is our one true luxury and at least it is used.
I don't get much of a chance to update myself on the news but obviously I should, what is the latest with savings!MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

MSE Martin is opining that T5B are going to cut their rates soon.
Little sister also used to have fancy Sk@y with sports etc., but now her poor hubby gets sent to the pub to nurse a glass of cola when a match is on :rotfl: She's a girl after our own hearts, slashed her budget to pay down the mortgage 10 years faster.0 -

If I believed any pub showed cross country skiing and biathlon I would go and watch it but they don't! I used to use $kygo while I was away as my tv but I don't get a decent internet signal where I am based now so am tv-less through the week.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

OFFS
I know, so pensioners basically can't be pensioners any more, either.
Shortfall risk is a thing and we all get how pernicious inflation is blah blah blah, but what's so wrong about expecting a small real return on a wodge of your hard earned cash?
All this does is push more people into equities, bonds and sketchier propositions like P2P that may be beyond their risk tolerance.
The world is changing, but my fear is that it's changing far faster for groups of people who are perhaps more vulnerable to the changes than the rest of us (i.e. those who have stopped earning but aren't able to manage their own investments, DB pension crowd will be fine). Too much, too soon.
That said, am I the only person who assumed that something nasty would be right around the corner when the gummint introduced no tax on first £1,000 of interest? :eek:0 -
My RB$ savings account has just changed from 0.5% to 0.01% ... Not that I opened it for the competitive rate to begin with, mind.
It seems like there are still a few places that have good rates for regular savers and the like, but it takes a lot of planning and doesn't offer the same liquidity. I've been putting my extra cash in P2P, but the rates are falling on some platforms as more investors are looking for real returns.0 -

Dammit! Thanks for the heads up KWI've been putting my extra cash in P2P, but the rates are falling on some platforms as more investors are looking for real returns.
Me too, but always remember that P2P isn't a savings account, no matter how vanilla the platform might feel. I am amazed that people are willing to risk cash in P2P for say, 3-4% return with no FSCS protection. I have a few £££ invested in high risk secured loans at around 12%, but I'd assume defaults will drop this to 8% or so long term.0 -
I had a letter from TSB the other day about the I terst rates being cut on the savings accounts but they didn't say anything about the 5% on the current account. I really hope they're not cutting that too!!!0
