    Curtains fitted with my first lovingly dadgineered bodge (sunk dowels into the too shallow holes with some G0rilla glue and screwed the central bracket onto these) :) Relatively pretty, but more importantly did the job! :j

    See, there's a royal society that I'll gladly join, is there a ceremonial uniform? :D

    PS - I went to a state school, and studied Latin up to O level. It's been incredibly useful, actually, in learning any Romance language - I went to Italy for 3 weeks and came back able to argue with pickup artists, and chat with railway guards :)

    Hi Ed

    Trying to catch up again (I am so behind!)

    Well done on getting DD's room sorted - I am sure she will love it!

    Sounds like you have some engineering bricks in the mix - we had loads of these in our old house which can make it difficult to get fixings - glue is always a good option when all else fails!

    I went to state schools - I did arts subjects at A level: English, History and Religious Studies - I did an engineering degree and now I'm a Technical Sales Engineer - it doesn't always follow!

    Good to catch up (though still loads to read).

    :rotfl: Thought you were "Bodge It and Flog It"? Or do you just subject your poor tenants to your dodge DIY ... ;);)

    :D Italy is a beautiful country and I'd agree with Latin being useful in this respect.

    Blind looks good, but it seems to be impossible to get 100% blackout, even with a 10cm or greater overlap at all edges. There's also some damage to the (cheap) Ikea blind that would have occurred at the factory, not sure if I CBA returning it, it's just some faint lines where the blackout coating is scratched at the right hand side.

    Ed - I have ike@ blackout blinds in all my bedrooms and they are total darkness. Not sure how your windows are but I;
    mounted blind on strip of wood just above window, then curtain rail above that (luckily rail brackets held rail out far enough for blind to go underneath it.

    Mounted blind so it unrolls from the back, my mum mounted hers and it unrolls from the front, thus giving her less than 100% blackout, got her to change it so unrolls from back - hey presto - worked a treat.

    Just thought I would mention it.

    That's how ours are AFR, but not total darkness (10cm overlap on each side?) Your Mum's sounds like it may be back to front?
