That sounds quite dear Alex, think it's £4-4.5k and our spec is pretty high end :) It is a very small room though.

Thanks, Ed. :) Are you DIY'ing any part of it?

I think a lot of the problem is mine; I don't really want a modern bathroom and will happily collect rather expensive period items, have them restored (more £££s) and then worry about fitting. A few years ago this wouldn't have been that expensive but it is now everyone has jumped on the bandwagon. Mrs. K. also wants a walk in shower which has put our quotes up by a significant margin as I'm not willing to have some ugly white plastic thing. That said, it would be better than the current set up. To be honest, a £400 B&Q suite would be better than the current set up. :o :rotfl:

Our bathroom is fairly large but it is our only one.

No, we're not DIYing any of it, we think paying skilled tradesmen is a sensible investment in our home value in this case.

I agree that a cheap white bathroom suite from one of the DIY 'sheds' is a bit depressing, but the suppliers used by our fitters had a surprisingly large amount of attractive options. The quality looks to be very good, carcasses for furniture etc. are stronger than our kitchen units!

I don't think that 'vintage' or modern is intrinsically a better choice, each can work very well in the right setting.
  • Hi Ed et al,

Holy moly, Ed - your car troubles sound horrendous! I hope you polished off the three bad luck things all at once so normal service can resume again.

My car is still out of commission. It looks like it could be a lot worse than originally thought. I'm still awaiting the final diagnosis.

Bathroom sounds nice. Mine needs doing as well. I have a question: does not having a bath reduce the value? I also have a tiny bathroom and a wet room style shower would make sense in terms of space but I quite like a bath (even tthough mine is a tidler) and I guess it's worth taking financial implications into consideration as well.

Oops to the ME. Perhaps set a reminder on your phone to place the second bet every time you set the first one? ;)

It reduced the value to us, although people without children or older children might not mind. Not a deal breaker, just something we had to fix

Nipped in to the house, looks like controlled chaos. Bathroom ripped out, walls and floors boarded for tiling, bath fitted, plumbing ready to connect. Not too messy, considering.

£309.00 spent at the vet  Consoled myself with a Pocket Money spend of some good SA red wine on an Am@zon offer.

That's fair enough. Our quotes were for no DIY too. Tiling is a job I really dislike and no desire to learn how to fit a bathroom suite, so quite happy to leave it to someone else.

You're right about one not being intrinsically better than the other. :) However, in an old house, I cannot see how a modern bathroom would work without looking try hard or "trendy". Reproduction is always an option but it seems anything I rather like is "POA", which almost always means ££££s.

Sounds like they're making good progress. :)

You spent £309 on your fish and then more on wine? Perhaps, you could save a bit by buying a bottle of white and having fish supper instead.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
