We do have a wardrobe, yes. Mrs E is breastfeeding, great health benefits for mother and baby, surely a good idea where possible? :)
I agree, though didn't realise that a breast pump would be needed also.....!

    SF I didn't use a pump and I BF'd.

I just fed on demand which is tiring at first when they feed so much but you soon get into the rhythm of it and my lovely hubs used to do all the night bum changes then just pass DD to me when she needed milk.

It wasn't that I worried about "nipple confusion" or anything, I actually think I was just too lazy to faff with sterilisation.

    Sorry to hijack ;)

Also got over public BF'ing nerves rapidly otherwise you actually can't go anywhere!!

I highly recommend those giant muslins, I had Aden and Anais but much cheaper can be had from tk max....

Ideal to cover up and lots of places, shopping centres are great for this, have special feeding rooms

  • We need to have a stock of nappies I feel; we're going for disposable ones to begin with and see from there.

Hi SF, a little advice we were given was to avoid stocking up too soon on nappies, and I reckon it was good advice. You will likely experiment with various brands until you find what works best for you and your baby. The tiny newborn nappies are so cheap that it's not really a massive expense initially. I'd suggest buying a couple of packs of newborn nappies in preparation, then add a pack or two to the weekly shop as and when needed. They soon grow too, you don't want to be lumbered with £££s of tiny nappies that your baby has outgrown!

Mrs E is doing brilliantly, what an amazing start your daughter is having.

SF, a pump is not a necessity and you can hand express if you want to as well. Also, no need to buy expensive breastfeeding tops. You can wear a vest top under another top, pull one up and one down and it does the trick.

Mrs E is feeding on demand, but when DD is going through a growth spurt and is asking for food every hour and a half, it is not proving practical.

In addition, expressing milk is far simpler with a breast pump, which allows you to stockpile a reserve in the fridge for times when the baby demands more than you can provide.

I hope you don't need one, but if you do, rest assured that you can buy a cracking one for what is a reasonable sum vs. your sanity! ;)

As others have said, the spending does calm down after a while, you've got a whole new human, you're allowed to be a bit spendy :)

Massive massive well done to Mrs E for the bfing - it's very intense early days isn't it :) it does calm down. They do like to throw you a curveball every now and then and have a growth spurt and want to feed around the clock again (around 16 weeks is a toughie iirc, felt like a newborn again!) but as with many difficult things as a parent, "this too shall pass". :o I actually hated it at the start (but was determined to do it), we fed until 13.5 months in the end when he self-weaned, overall bfing is an experience I look back on fondly.

Ed, have you and MrsE joined the local NCT group or equivalent? I used to work as a secretary at National, and there were all sorts of things that could be rented out at lots of branches, to experiment with (one thing we used to send out a lot was the knitting pattern for a womb, to ante-natal classes :) ). I'm sure its online now, what with tinternet and all :)
