I can't say I know anybody that completes their own self assessment.
Can't say I know anyone who doesn't, unless they run their own business. I do mine, Mr GG does his, DD does hers, friend does hers. I know there can be tax 'loopholes' to exploit but we all have pretty straightforward finances and even on the btl's I haven't seen anything anywhere that's made me think I'm missing anything - I'm a member of the RLA and there is a lot of info there.
So, if the account was in my wife's name she would end up paying 40% tax on the savings? Thanks for this clarification, at least I now know to put any savings in my name. :)
    Yup that's right.
Glad Ed's explained the 1/3rd, it makes sense now :T.

Ed - any pork Welly left?
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

About enough for one small portion :)

It was surprisingly cheap. Whoopsied piece of pork fillet from Mr M and special offer L1dl Serrano ham, but c. £5 all in. Very pleased with that, would have served 4 people with dinner party portions (i.e. 3 course meal with a couple of sides etc.)

Served with parmesan and butter spaetzle and savoy cabbage with crushed coriander seeds.

Heaven only knows about the finances 1/3 or 4% or 5% but did enjoy the food reports and am hungry now!
I get my accountant to the my return - but - he does it when he does my company's accounts which is my excuse :)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Good evening, KC. :)

Regarding the self assessments, I need all the help I can get. :o

Going to see my parents' tax advisor regarding the right way to go about the savings and other things before proceeding with anything as to be honest I don't understand much about any of this.
    2018 totals:
    Savings £11,200
    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500
