When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

Hello all, Happy Friday :j
Today I have made packed lunches for all and packed breakfast for son1. Just thought - if I didn't make packed lunches for sons they'd have to buy their own food
but son1 does pay for his keep so don't think I can be that mean.
Checked bank accounts, all OK.
Checked ebay and 2 of my items that automatically relisted (didn't sell last week) have got bids on - excellent news, a few more pounds to hit OD number 1 (my first main target as charges have rocketed).
Made Bolognese in slow cooker last night with strange coloured mince (wasn't even near to use by date) which we will eat tonight - fingers crossed.
Need to get organised this evening because in the morning I am going to the bank to try and get account changed to one with free OD for a year (OD2). Also to open two building society accounts so that we can start to put money away for some of those things that we need money for but aren't a regular bill. Have budgeted £150 for this. Really want to start a motoring account too but have just paid £99 tax and £93 service bill so can't do that this month.
Best wishes all.0 -
Today's small things are indeed titchy. I have:
*Visited that well known Swedish Emporium to buy the items required for our new bathroom & stuck to budget. Took Household Piggy cash with us so could stay focussed on available budget rather than obfuscate with cards.
*Took a couple of filled pittas to avoid buying lunch in the cafe while there.
*Mr f suggested I go & find a table while he queued to buy one coffee (which would be mine) then we'd go for a free refill which would be his. Great MSE idea in theory.......until he came back with 2 cakes! The funny thing was that he was still proudly proclaiming about how he'd saved us a £!
*Cleaned the house using minimal products.
*Did meal plans for next week & wrote shopping list.
*Entered competition.
*Watered veggies.
*Still to do - today's present knitting quota.
Have a lovely Friday night, everyone.

I went to local Tes*o store on way home from work for 4 pints of milk for £1.00.
Whilst walking back to my car I found 30p in the car park so I effectively got 30% off my milk!! - now that's what I call a bargain!

Thinking of spending???..YNAB says "NO!!!!"0 -
Got home to find invoice for lawnmowever service £66.48
Had budgeted for £20 (it has always been between 10 and 20 quid before - was in need of some tlc but it only cost £99 new 8 years ago!).
Card from vet to say dogs vaccinations are due - I'd put them in for next month - they may have to wait.
Was feeling quite downhearted
Then son 1 came home from work with 2 bags of free veg (lovely lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms, cucumber, peppers) from market stall holder he helps as part of his job. He often gets free eggs from another grateful person that he goes out of his way to help.
That made me feel better. Just goes to show that being kind reaps rewards
The need to pay the extra bills has spurred me on to do some extra eBay research tonight (supposed to be doing that now). Main aim this weekend is to clear eBay corner (corner of dining room full of stuff to list).
Have a good DFW evening.0 -
Hi all - Today I upgraded my mobile phone contract and reduced the line rental from £40 a month, down to £28 a month! Managed to resist the urge to go for the latest handset and opted for one of the free options instead. Also converted my old mobile handset into £119 cash using the mobile exchange company.
Then I cancelled my weight watchers membership which was £10.95 a month.
I'm still new to this, so I suppose I've still got some 'big' changes to make but I think that today was petty successful
It's great to read what other people do, thanks for sharing!

Hi everyone, not posted for a while but still been around.
Hope your hospital app went well Ziggy? Solvencyseeker, I like the idea of a motoring account - my car is a big expense and I've never put away money each month for tax/mot/maintenance. I think I might borrow that idea please! I've also got an EBay pile which I just can't seem to motivate myself to sorting. Foxgloves - you always manage to make me chuckle - picturing you walking around with a big pink piggy bank under your arm whilst shopping
Lots of the same for me today, I think this is why I haven't been posting as much:
All meals from stores - half of the office had chippy for lunch, I would have been very tempted, but didn't have a single penny in my purse, so I stuck to my HM pasta!
Made some time up at work - had to take a day off last week as DD was ill, so I need to work extra to make up the time or loose the money (not an option!) Only a further 1.25 hours to go.
Ironing pile done.
Checked pcl
Still to check bank
Hoping to have a productive and very low spend bank holiday weekend - hope everyone has a good one.SPC # 348 2014-£169.07/2015 - £156.89
