Tax code 937L correct.

Hi,

OH's tax code for 2nd may is 937L.

Has anyone any idea why? I was expecting it to be 1000L changing from 944L on the previous slip.

She is paid 4 weekly and there was a little backpay as well due to the timings. Is this the reason?

Will it be 1000L next wage as expected.

Cheers.

Back pay and timing have nothing to do with the tax code

Other than possibly owing tax for an earlier year I can't see a reason for that code

    Hi,

    Thanks for your replies.

No P2 coding notice has been received.

She works for ASDA, paid 4 weekly, usual thing, a bonus, staff discount, sharesave. All things that as far as I can tell would not effect the tax code.

She did ask today and others have the same code so it may be right. however HR were useless and said contact HMRC!

Just seems a bit odd to me given there is no reason for it!

Thanks in advance for any more info!

The employer would have used the tax coding as supplied by HMRC

The employee should have also received notification of the tax coding, and whilst the employers notification does not explain the reasoning behind it, the employees version does.

Your OH should contact the appropriate tax office for clarification if unsure.

The employer will not change the tax coding used unless told to by HMRC.

If I remember correctly at least some possibly all, four weekly paid Asda employees had a week 56 payment for tax year 12/13 which caused an underpayment of tax which HMRC could be collecting this year by adjusting tax codes.

Have done a quick search details here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4702745

Just needed to pick up on this reply - the cycle scheme doesn't affect your tax code so yours must be adjusted for some other reason
