Working From Home P87

Options
Hi All,

I've read several threads that contain snippets of the information that I'm trying to find out, but this, along with speaking to an accountant has probably ended up just confusing me even more.

I've just completed my first year in a job which requires me to work from home. I have a £6000 car allowance which is included in my salary and on which I pay tax, NI and student loan. I use this to pay for a car which is used for work purposes (visits to client sites, visits to the head office etc.).

I pay for all fuel out of my own pocket and then claim back the business mileage from my company as an expense. The calculations I have so far for mileage allowance relief are as follows:

Total Business Mileage = 5685 x 0.45p = £2558.25
Mileage Payments Received From Employer = £858.61

Therefore, Total Mileage Relief Allowance = £1699.64

However, in the notes section at the bottom of the page, it mentions that expenses directly related to a business journey such as parking or tolls should be included in section 6 (which is for mileage associated to Cycling). Does this mean I can add any parking that I have paid for in the last year that relates to business journeys to maximum tax free amount?

The rest of the form is where I'm really confused. I also claim expenses for a number of other things that are related to business trips (hotels, lunches, dinners etc.) and also for items that are required for me to do the job (internet costs, office equipment etc.). All of these expenses are repaid in full. Can I claim tax relief for any of these? The P87 form has sections for Hotel and Meal expenses and also Other expenses but I'm not totally sure if I'm eligible?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated :)

if your employer repays you in full for business expenses then obviously you can't claim tax relief on non-existent expenses
