How dare the government give help to the small struggling UK businesses. Ridiculous!0 -
Self employed and agency work are 2 different worlds.
Self employed ( a business to consumer arrangement) -- YOU find the job
- YOU quote for the job. If you quote too high you don't get the job. If you get it right you are quids in. If you quote too low you're in trouble.
- YOU pay a (ridiculously cheap) Class 2 NI contribution (+ VCs if you wish)
- YOU shoulder the risk and hassle of non-paying customers.
Agency worker ( business to business arrangement)- THEY find the job.
- THEY pay you a guaranteed rate for the hours you work (I assume you are on an hourly rate?).
- THEY take the hit if it goes pear-shaped.
Are you significantly worse off under your current arrangement? If not, isn't all the hassle you've saved worth a few hundred quid?
Noone likes Employer's NI. It truly is a tax on jobs.
Can you go limited? You could make a profit on it here (disclaimer: I've not checked their cashback scheme so it could be a scam), but it's pretty cheap to do so online. It does carry with it certain responsibilities.
If so, you too, could benefit from the current employer's NI discount.0 -
You've done the maths and confirmed what is shown as employers NI is being deducted from the gross right?
My payslips always show Employers NI however its there as information and the amount I get paid is not effected by it.0 -
I have read my wage slip correctly and I am paying the employers N.I.
I am not an agency worker I just find work through them, when its quiet.
Some of you obviously do not know the building trade and how hard it is.
I am not against small business getting help with N.I. but when N.I. office have to set up a new helpline to deal with the calls it says a lot.0 -

this is the HMRC guidance on NI for Employers.
you've been told this is a loophole that enables an Agency to deduct employer ni from employee wages, is it referred to on that link?
this is HMRC info on the CIS scheme, being paid as a subcontractor, would this apply if you were classed as an employee? i thought it was for subbies only? (been a while since i've had any dealings with CIS).0
