I live in North Miseryside on the Coast.
I 'contract' via my own ltd company.
My current contract in the East Midlands comes to an end in 5 weeks, and I have an interview in Hemel Hempstead, for a 1 year contract.
Now spareroom.co.uk, will help me find affordable digs, but I'm looking at how to get there and back in a time and cost effective manner.
Note that I use my own car at the moment and claim 45p a mile, which is quite tax efficient as my car has low depreciation.
So I'm thinking Friday afternoon, it's pointless to think that 200 miles up the M1, M6 and M62 and M57 would be anything other than Bread, but the train, doesn't get me there early enough, as I'd have to get into Liverpool, on one train, get a fast train to Euston, and then get a train back to hemel. Plus the advanced ticket cost is shall we say not cheap.
Any ideas ?

If you've eliminated train and dont want driving what other options do you think may exist? Coach/Bus is the only other realistic one and if driving is going to be too bad for you then this is worse and likely also to struggle getting in early enough on Monday.
The chaps I know that work very far from home, except one that commutes daily, have an agreement to come in slightly late on Mondays and drive down and leave the car at their weekday digs and then come in. Some leave on Thursday evening and WFH on Fridays or leave early on Friday to avoid the worst of London/M25 rush hour. Both ways any early/ lateness is worked back and flexibility is expected for the occasional late friday meeting etc0 -
I could drive to Runcorn, and pay for a weeks parking,0

Unfortunately Hemel isn't in the best place to get to Liverpool driving wise (I've driven the journey a few times before) and London Midland isn't the most reliable of service, but given a choice between the two I would choose the driving option and see if you can start late on a Monday and finish early on a Friday. I don't think that there are any coaches that go direct, you'd have to stop at Milton Keynes I believe and overall takes around 6 hours.
In my opinion and experience, there isn't any easy way to get there and I'm a fan of having my own space, so the driving option would sway it for me.0 -
Drive to Crewe and get the train to Hemel changing at Milton Keynes Central? Can get there from 07:30 onwards
Could do it for £35 if you could get in an hr late. Otherwise its silly £85+ then of cause the parking and travel to crewe0 -

you still have to fine tune for timetables but seems great to kick of for places you don't know.0

Buy a motorbike
A colleague did that for their Derby to City commute, difference was that he did his daily.
Worrying thing was that if he missed his leaving early time he decided to go to the pub to wait for post rush hour. The one time I went with him though he was sensible, he decided he should only have a half rather than a 9th pint because he was driving :eek:0
