Opinions on Internal Job Application.

Hi,
Just wanted some opinions on a situation as waiting is killing us!
My husband has been with his current employer for 7 months and took his current role as a means to work for a better organisation even though it meant going backwards slightly in his career path.
Since being there he has worked incredibly hard and this has been noted and told how he has turned his team and area around since he's been there and also told he is senior management material and that it was just a matter of waiting for a role to open up.
A role has come up in the company for the job he did in his previous organisation, he has plenty of experience, has proved himself here, is well liked etc etc.
He had an interview last week, all went really well said they would be in contact. He noticed the next day that the external add for the job had been relisted and was relisted everyday as a new job until today when it came off.
He was called and told they had not come to a decision yet and had more people to see externally and that she would come down and see him next Tuesday to feedback. He said if he hadn't got the role he would rather know now and get the reasoning etc why next week and she said they had just not made a choice yet.
What do you think his chances are based on this? Do you think they would have definitely said if he was a no or are they just holding out for someone better this week? Surely not hiring internally if he can do the job is not the best idea as they will ultimately lose a good member of staff.
Do they have to see a certain amount of people before they can make a choice?
Just not sure what to think now as when it went back online we kind of gave up hope but not sure if todays update was positive or negative really xx

I think they are looking at it as Hobson's choice at the moment. If they can't find anyone better than hubby, he'll get it.0

The re-listing thing is also certainly an automatic process on the website.
so don't read too much into that.
even if your bloke is bang on the money its only good practice to try and see a couple of people.0 -
looks like they're looking for someone else and Like PoD said, if they can't find anyone better, your husband will get it. Usually if they want to see "more" people, the job is posted internally and externally. When I applied for a promotion at my current company, they told me about the job and sent out the job spec to different agencies. I had to go through the interview process with external candidates at the same time.0

Thanks for the opinions it really helps to have a different view point good or bad.
They released the role internally and externally at the same time and he interviewed on the same day that they saw 4 other external candidates he was the only internal that got an interview.
When she said they hadn't made a decision she mentioned that a couple of people that they were due to see on the same day as him hadn't been able to make it so had their interviews rescheduled for this week so guess they are just not sure about him and are thinking that the couple they see this week might be better or maybe concerned about having to fill his position if he moves...who knows0 -

At this point it doesn't matter how well he did or didn't do. He may have interviewed well but that's beside the point at the moment. If they had already offered interviews to 2 other people and had to rearrange to a later date then it's good practice to carry that process through to ensure that they are getting the best candidate. I think you and your husband are overthinking this and need to be patient until the initial round of candiates have all been interviewed. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
