Email about a job? Fake?

Hi I'm unemployed and desperately searching for work I got this email about a virtual assistant job.

Hi,

I noticed your contacts on a job search board, and I thought that the vacancy we currently have could suit your skills.

We are seeking for self-organized, trustworthy and industrious Virtual Assistants for long-term employment. Our company is operating from the United Kingdom, and because of our working hours we require a candidate to be located in Europe, preferably in the UK as well or in Greece, Poland, Estonia or Romania.

As a Virtual Assistant you will be performing online cross-referencing, data entry, creating tables in Spreadsheets, documents preparation, scheduling meetings, writing texts, and keeping everything organized for our clients.

This is an awesome opportunity for those who want to work from home due to other commitments. It is a permanent part-time job, demanding about 6 hours daily except weekends and holidays. We offer a set monthly salary of 2,650 GBP, incentive bonuses for individual performance, holidays, sick days, reimbursement of job-related expenses and a benefits package.

We would require the following from our Virtual Assistants:

- Demonstrated command of written and spoken English is essential!
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- General knowledge of with Microsoft Office: creating and editing documents and tables.
- Ability to effectively perform multiple tasks.
- Ability to manage your time sucessfully and meet deadlines.
- Willing to start ASAP.

If you have what it takes to get employed by our company, please reply with a short message stating why you would consider being a Virtual Assistant and your current location in Europe. I will send your email to our hiring manager, who will be able to follow up with more details on the job to selected candidates. Also, if you know someone who might be interested in it, we would appreciate a reference!

Best regards,
VA Team

Does this look fake to anyone else? The companies name was never mentioned and it came from this email address benramos763@yahoo.com, to me it seems strange that a company would use a yahoo account.

Hmm. I say fake. No-one pays that amount of money for part time home based work, surely?

Phishing? Send 'em your CVand they'll know everything about you? Download their links / files and they're in your computer.

    Cynical? Moi? You betcha!

Thanks it sucks getting emails like this, I've been looking for work for ages and had nothing except an interview which I got a call the day before and was cancelled.
May as well give up looking for work :(

There are genuine virtual assistant roles but I would never reply to an email that didn't include a company name (and even then, I'd check out the company - google, companies house, etc).

Oh, sorry, it s hard at the moment in a lot of areas. Job hunters made to apply for anything and everything, so those sifting through the (sometimes hundreds of) applications can't see the wood for the trees.

I really hope you get your break soon :(

Thanks but no one will give me a chance, I can't just keep applying forever, I've been unemployed for two years and it's taken it's toll mentally.
  • I have had the exact same email... it went straight to my spam mail and it was an old email it went to that I have not used for job applications for years.

Please don't give up. I really feel for you and know how hard it can be. Would it be worth speaking to your GP about getting a referral for some counselling? It might just help having someone to speak to - just to help with the psychological toll of long-term jobseeking.

I really hope something comes up for you soon.

Thanks for the advice but I don't think it will help me and I don't like to go to the doctors much because I would rather not have anything recorded on my file especially anything to do with mentality.

Keep going and you will get something.

I assume you're signed on with temp agencies etc, to get some short-term references?

Times are tough, and although it may not be fair on some, your time will come. I second advice above to speak to your GP.
