When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:
Morning
yay Monday is out of the way :j Have a feeling it's going to be a quick week!
Happy birthday for yesterday foxgloves! Hope you had a fantastic time, and what a lovely thing for the B&B owner to bake you a cake :A
Just reviewed yesterday's list and I did pretty well
I made this for dinner:
http://thefrugalchef.com/2014/01/chicken-rice-casserole/
Substituted the veg for peppers & mushrooms which I had in the fridge, used up a pot of salsa dip (oh always buys it for dipping dorritos but then it also is left in the fridge to fester). It was delish
Things for today:
* work from home this morning
* drive to London for a meeting this afternoon
* ask oh if he can pick up the dyson vacuum I bought off of ebay for £24.67 :T
* all meals from stores - lo dinner from last night mmmmmmm
* call to switch 2 dds to 123 account to qualify for interest
* NSD? Maybe...
* starting portuguese night class tonight
* my hairdresser to say something went wrong with my colour
a bit nervous about this but on the other hand I had my roots done at the weekend and they are still brown
* ask oh to call Halifax to confirm we have given the right international account details for tax refund from KLM
* hang up washing
* do a celebratory vacuum if we get the vacuum :T Haven't vacuumed since about a week before our holiday!
* water plants/seedlings
* car checks - must do this today!
Ok think that's all I need to do. Have a great day x

Morning all. Day off for me today so an early posting for a change.
Today I have:- checked online banking
- checked balance on mobile allowance
- called to double check my gym membership had been cancelled and, because of the type of membership I have, 30 days notice isn't required and no payment will be taken for May
- cancelled DD at bank for gym membership
- made kids packed lunches and they are at their dads for dinner tonight so I can just eat a weird mixture of things for dinner that will avoid me going to the shops
And for the rest of the day I plan to:- go to the gym to get use of last few days of membership since I'm paid up till 4th May
- clean the car at home rather than pay £1 to use the hoover at the car wash place
- attempt to sell DS2 old footie strips
- visit friend who is storing some clothes for me and hope that all my holiday clothes are there otherwise I will need to buy some new holiday clothes
- Sit down with my monthly diary and recalculate my budget for May and hopefully give myself an allowance
Official DFW nerd no 551 - proud to be dealing with my debts
Debts as of March 2014
Nationwide - £5745, Overdraft - £350,
Debts as of January 2015
Nationwide - £4997, Overdraft - £0:j0 -
Well done all!
Keeping track of my bank account on a daily basis is something I've just started to do, helps keep me focused and not let spending drift.
Checked bank and glad to see CC1 now £100 less and was also refunded overlimit charge...big hurray!
Got a bid on an item on ebay - £50 so far, for something that was just sitting around the house.
Sort out more bits for ebay.0 -
Good afternoon DFW's!
Today I am gearing up for payday (tomorrow). Checked bank accounts and will update spreadsheet later.
Persuaded OH to cancel a course he has booked (2 days at a cost of £100) as he can get this via work if he is a bit more patient.
Nagged son 1 to do the bank transfer for his keep. Always have to ask him several times to do this - quite annoying!
Was going to make ham, egg and chips for tea but the gannets I live with have eaten all the ham (spotted the empty plate - still in the fridge - this morning) so it will be egg and chips (always reminds me of Shirley Valentine).
Arranged for pick ups of eBay items that sold last night (another £20+ profit banked). As you say ASingleParent - we have cashed in lots of things we had in the house and shed. Find it a bit time consuming for smaller items - am planning to do a car boot for some of those but haven't been to one for ages (£10+ years) so need to do a bit of research.
Also will never again buy a new item before researching first - we have sold a lot of quality items for a fraction of what we paid for them new. Am happy to have the cash for them now - but wish we'd been savvy enough to buy second hand in the first place.
Impressed with the Dyson purchase DNMS :T
Don't worry about moaning Ziggy - you have made me really welcome and it's good to know there's a place we can just let it all out!
Have a good rest of the day.0 -
Hello
Inspired to get back on the wagon (again)
A whole lovely great big day to spend at home just me and the cat.
Used washing line instead of dryer
Rang new CC company to confirm direct debit set up to make payment each month.
Checked bank balances
Kept heating off and made do with hot water bottle, jumper and blanket
Did a few surveys
Did some lurking on MSE
To do:
Meal plan using what's at home before weekly food shop tomorrow.
Attempt to make an edible loaf of bread in the breadmaker instead of another brick.0 -
Intended to order in a take-away when we got back this evening from our weekend away, but we decided to cook instead & are now feeling angelic!
Passed a Sainsbury's at the start of our journey & nipped in to fill up with petrol. Glad we did as petrol was an eye-watering 144.9p when we stopped later at a motorway services.
Lots of different budgets require reconciliation following our trip, but having done lots of unpacking & loaded the washer, I've decided to leave everything else till tomorrow.
DNMS - thanks for birthday we wishes. Yes, the cake was a kind ithought. When we arrived, we had my presents with us so she spotted it was my birthday. Next morning, there was a birthday cake with the candles lit, waiting for me on the table, which she'd baked specially. I was quite touched. We hadn't stayed before & she didn't know me, so it was a genuinely kind act. I'm intending to pay it forward by doing a kind thing for someone else this week.
