Options
Hi all,

Just wondering if someone can advise ? i get taxed the same amount each month give or take a few pounds but in my April wage slip i was down around £40, do they balance it out over the year so if your down in what you have paid overall this year they then take it out in April the last month of financial year to balance it out ??

thank you in advance if anyone can help :)

What was the date of your April payslip if 6 April or later it is the first payslip for this tax year not the last for last tax year.
Either way to give any answer you need to give full details of the payslip and the one before.
Taxable gross, tax paid, tax code, tax basis, taxable gross to date and tax paid to date.

Do have any Benefit in Kind elements such as private healthcare, fuel card etc?
Have you had an underpayment in previous years?
You should have a coding notice to show how the 746 code is worked out

This suggests that the payslip you are referring to is the first for the new tax year. The increase in tax may be partly or fully accounted for by the code change, cannot tell which without the figures, so as Caz3121 says you need to check the coding notice and if you do not have one request it from HMRC.
  • What car did you have? A tax code of 700 something is unlikely to include BIK for a car unless it's a very low value/ low CO2
