Could war break out once again between the commoner muck and the toffee nosed twits

Amuing story in the Daily Mail today.
And before anyone says it, it was on the beed national news. Though can't see an article on the website, so had to use the mail.
A campaign has been setup to stop a lidl being built in Berkhamsted as it would be out of keeping with the town. The campaigner has suggested that they do not need a budget supermarket, or the flats it will bring with it as they are already "overrun with new builds"
The BBC cut straight to an estate agent, who suggested the pace of the rise in house prices in the area may slow if a budget supermarket is imposed on the area. However, an M&S may benefit house prices.
It was almost as if the main issue was house prices. Wasn't other shopkeepers consulted, oh no. Just the local estate agent.
Another campaign to get a lidl in the town has been started, by those feeling the pinch in the area....branding half the town as toffee nosed twits.
It got me thinking, the divide in the South West appears to be getting bigger and bigger, and the arguments more vocal every time the commoner muck raises it's voice.
Are were returning, slowly, to class wars? Yet again, the people campaigning to stop any affordable housing or shopping want more services in their town....those services run by people who will require affordable living...
If you want to rely on the lowly commoner to scan your shopping, care for you in your old age and keep the post office running....where do you expect those commoners to live?

I was not aware that the "Class Wars" had ever stopped!0

No, class war wouldn't make sense nowadays, as the divide between the haves and the have-nots doesn't break down along class lines any longer.
I can see those who are net contributors losing patience with those who are not only net receivers but who don't even seem to want to contribute, but we know that there's not much to be done there.0 -

I may br wrong, but the wold class thing seemed to die off somewhat. Less gated communities....the lower middle classes doing very well from HPI meaning they were happy with their lot.
Now, however, the middle class appear to be feeling the pinch a bit more. There was an article the other day saying more gated communitues are being built again etc etc.
Over the past decade certainly people are far more vocal about stopping any proposed development. Whole armies seem to have appeared who have fine tuned the art of apposing any development to save their beloved area from others moving in.
Or maybe it's just me. But certainly I can see the class thing cropping up more and more. Or to put it another way, the divide between the haves and have nots becoming more prominant and vocal.
You also have the rise of "ghettos" and poor living conditions in London as more and more treat it as Europes safe haven.
Now, it appears there is little shame in suggesting that you are simply too posh for a lidl.0 -
Just tell them that Lidl sells not bad wine at very good prices and they'll drop their objections pronto. Add in that there's to be an instore bakery (well, our local has one!) - fresh croissants and French sticks every day - and they'll be hanging out the bunting!

Up here when we see someone driving a "gas guzzler", we wonder where they get the money from to put fuel in it, the answer is easy - they shop at Lidl.0

Slow news day?
I know Berkhamsted pretty well and I know plenty of people who live there. It's where my dad is from. I don't think the whole situation is as cut and dry as the Wail (or for that matter the beeb) would have us believe.
There are certainly snobby people who live in Berkhamsted and feel that a Lidl will lower the tone. There are also plenty of people who have (probably) justified concerns about extra traffic. There is one main road through the town and it gets very congested.
Equally there are plenty of not very wealthy people there, both pensioners and people on low incomes for whom shopping at the nice large Waitrose is expensive.
Storm in a tea cup. I'll be amazed if it doesn't go ahead. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Within two miles of my house in Royal Berkshire there is a Tesco, M&S, Waitrose, Coop, Aldi and Lidl. And another mile away there's a Sainsbury's. They all seem to get along well enough with each other and I go to each one to buy different things. However, there are plenty of Mercs and Beemers parked up at Aldi and Lidl and so I don't get this nonsense about how they lower the tone of the area.0

There's one of these near where I live. It's actually decent.FACT.0

I'd get right stuck in with a but of windmilling if the renters/yoof decleared war on the home owning masters0

It's obviously a very slow news day today.
Whoever categorises themselves as lower class, middle class or upper class really needs to have a long hard chat with themselves. It's a rubbish story for the sheeple to get agitated about.0
