I've also worn contacts all my life.
Specsavers now supply me daily contact varifocals & I love them :-(0 -
Varifocals contacts! Brilliant! I wish I could use them.
I've tried contacts twice and each time I've managed to scratch my cornea. I have piggy little eyes and never intend to have long nails, but the grow so quickly?
I'm really fed up with wearing glasses.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

I'm really fed up with wearing glasses.
I have longish nails & I used to wear acrylics.
I put mine in with my finger pad, not tip.
It's easy when you get used to it.0 -
I can't get on with cheaper varifocal lenses at all. I also can't get on with them for computer so have a sort of mid-distance pair for computer work.
I also need reading glasses!travelover0 -
I've always got my varifocals from Vision Express. You have to make sure that the size of the lens is big enough to cope with three different prescriptions - the smaller the lens, the smaller the 'reading' bit, for example. Unfortunately, small lenses are trendy at the moment.
Although my varifocals are great for normal day-to-day living, and particularly for driving (I can't see the dash/sat nav without them), I go back to normal reading glasses if I'm either reading or on the computer for any length of time. I find that the slight tilt you have to put your head at strains my neck otherwise. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
I work in a independent opticians and have a few tips that may help you decide which lens will be more suited for you. There are a few options of lenses. Zeiss, Essilor and rodenstock are few of the best on the market to my knowledge. If you use the computer a lot more of your time then we would recommend separate pair of occupational lens, so that less head movements will be required, and will not give you problems with your neck. Essilor launched their lasted lens called the S-Series and it is great for 1st time varifocal wearers. Its new design gives you better field of vision, less head movements and quick adaptation. Hope this helps0

From #1I've called specsavers and my local one won't supply anything other than their own Pentax.
Go to another branch, I asked for Zeiss, long time wearer, and they supplied them. Of course they tried to push their own brand, but if you insist they supply Zeiss, they are not cheap, but your eyesight is priceless.0 -

Sorry - only just seen this post. I tried Asda vari-focals this year and the quality is great - especially considering the price. My previous pair finally cost me over £350 by the time I'd added all the optional extras. With Asda they all come as standard.
I'm really pleased with mine and will go back to Asda for next pair - most likely sunglasses next week :cool:0 -
I doubled up my clubcard vouchers and got my varifocals at Tesco. I thought I may as well get the most expensive type they did since I had the vouchers. I took to them immediately. Boost (double up) isn't on at the moment but if you can wait a while it would be worth it as Opticians are always included.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0
