This may sound like a stupid question but anyway.
My new job has a "smart casual" dress code. I don't have the faintest idea what this is. Does anyone have any tips? I'm assuming I can't walk in there in my usual work attire of jeans and a T-shirt.
In academia, there's no dress code at all - you could probably work in PJs and no-one would raise an eyebrow ...
It may help if i say that I'm a young looking, very small 40 something female. Just looking for examples really.

If it were me I'd probably play safe with a pair of black/dark trousers (only because I don't do dresses or skirts) and a blouse/shirt type top. The sort of thing I'd probably wear to interview if I wasn't going down the whole formal suit type thing. Then see what everyone else is wearing when you get there. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
The key will be does it include Blue jeans or not.
For guys it usually means, polos, proper shirts, some smart T-shirts are ok.
Trousers chinos, jeans but as above some don't want blue, so the black and other colors ok.
Where blue jeans are ok smart means not designer with holes.
The type of place might be a clues as banker smart casual will be different to IT smart casual.0 -
Start at the smarter end and work down as you settle in if you feel overdressed.0

Click this and I would hazard a guess something like that.
So.. most jeans, tracksuits and hoodies are probably very much out of the question. But there seems to be 'some' scope for individuality.:www: Progress Report :www:
Offer accepted: £107'000
Deposit: £23'000
Mortgage approved for: £84'000
Exchanged: 2/3/16
:T ... complete on 9/3/16 ... :T0 -

Thats very useful. Thank you. And I rather like the idea of dressing smarter and then down dressing later as I get an idea of what everyone else is wearing.0 -
I worked in a building that had a magazine team on two of the floors. including call centre.
mainly women and the comings and goings they all were fairly smart(not formal), I wonder if there tends to be an element of "like to look good competition" in that environment so smart casual tends towards the smarter end where as I work mainly in IT with blokes and we just don't care, unless it is business(like customer meetings).0 -
