I haven't attempted to do this yet, so looking to find out if it's easy to do.
I run a payroll for my business using the HMRC download tool on my laptop. Each year I close down a year end and download the new payroll and the details etc automatically get carried over to the new year.
I now have a new laptop and want to start the new payroll year on it, will it know my details on a new laptop from the previous year on old laptop when I download the program?
As you can tell I'm not very techie.
Thanks

Just done this. It will NOT know the previous data, you need to copy it from your old machine.
In the HMRC "Basic Payroll Tools RTI" programme on your old machine use the "backup data" option. Save the file onto a USB stick.
On the new machine plug in the USB stick, then in the HMRC programme use "restore data" option and point it to the file on your USB stick.
It will then have all the previous employer & employee historical data in the new programme - but you will still need to update each employees tax codes with the new ones for 2014-15 of course.0
