online dbs tracking

Hi,

I submitted an electronic dbs on 24/4/14, was quoted a turn around of 72 hours as its done via e bulk. My app is stuck at stage 2 checking police computer for last 48 hours. When i rang the dbs people today they said it only updates once a day. Is this true?

If not whats the hold up, this a busy time of year?

Thanks

Don't know but just realised I haven't had mine back yet - I completed the stuff online in Feb but dippy employers haven't completed the identity bit! Hopeless.

TBH, I don't see how they can give you a turnaround time which isn't just an 'at least' estimate.

Surely your form would have to be checked by every police force area you've lived in for the last five years. So there are immediately two possible causes for delay: a slow response from one police area, or several areas to give a response.

You're already doing better than one colleague whose first form apparently never reached the DBS, although other forms sent in the same envelope DID arrive!

Just phoned and discovered it is the dippy employers who haven't contacted capita to do their part of the ID check.

Not surprised they have only had 3 months ;)

I hope you get yours sorted soon - I have at least 3 other certs (DBS / CRB - more than one employer and do some agency work) and from what I remember they all cam back very quickly, much quicker than they used to do a few years ago

You do now have the option to make your DBS check 'portable'. There's a box to tick on the form, then when you get your latest check back you can take it to your employer and they can (should be able to) check online whether anything relevant has been added since you were sent your copy. That should be fairly instantaneous, and will save the aggro of needing a DBS check for each and every employer / organisation you're involved with.

It also means if you stay with an employer for a number of years, you won't have to do a completely new application at regular intervals, they can just update it.

Obviously if you've only had a 'standard' check done and you need an 'enhanced' then you'll need another.

Mine are enhanced checks - problem is that employer is too dippy to understand portability or updating **sigh** problem of being TUPEd out of the NHS
