The individual can appeal the outcome on the basis it may have been pre determined. That would simply mean the employer would redo the process correctly, dragging it all out with the result being the same.

They've has their bite at the cherry by this point, or do you advocate they keep going ad infinitum until they get the result they want?

In a small business the disciplinary may not be heard by a panel, the whole process may be done by one person.

Perhaps its fair to assume as a care provider the employer won't be a one man band.

I don't even think she has brought the business into disrepute by what she posted; do people imagine that carers are surrounded by cheerful and immaculate compos mentis old people all day? I actually think this is a ridiculous fuss about nothing much.

That's not the point. Details about work shouldn't be posted on-line no matter how trivial it may seem.

If you went down that route, you'd never talk about anything online, or in a public place with friends because someone might overhear you.

This all seems like a huge overreaction to me.

You shouldn't be talking about work in a public place anyway for that very reason.

Two of my friends - and I have known them for years, are not at liberty to discuss what they do at work AT ALL. I have only the vaguest idea what they do, though I do by whom they are employed.

A doctor's receptionist, for example, isn't at liberty to reveal who's been IN for an appointment!

It's quite common to have to give an undertaking that work issues should NOT be discussed on line or, indeed, outside the workplace!

Torry Quine and Valli - to the extent of not being able to comment to friends that you had a tricky day but you still enjoy your job??

OH feels the only danger here is of boring your friends to tears if you don't have anything else to say. A blanket ban on comments about your day does seem OTT.

For example, if one shouldn't mention anything about work if one works with vulnerable people, does that mean that I should keep it a secret that I'm a teacher? Am I endangering my students by allowing others to know what it is I do for a living?

Well if you are a teacher then you have probably been advised about what you should, and should not, be posting on social media. By your union AND by your employer. Of course you can tell people what job you do; but there will be aspects of what happens in your job and with your students that you may NOT share.

Don't forget there's a huge gulf between 'he said, she said' and sticking something on a website and thereby, effectively, losing all control over who sees it.

There's a difference between generic statements such as 'hard day today' and more specific such as 'hard day today because a resident threw her dinner at me'. People knowing where you work is alright as long as you don't tell them specific incidents and definitely not on social media.

And thats why you should not talk about work on a public place like FB or Twitter as you never know what will come back to bite you on the b#m
