Pay query

Hi, hoping someone can help me please.
I've just received a letter from a solicitor telling me I was overpaid from a job I left in November 2012 and that I have 14 days to pay or court proceedings will start. I've had no contact at all about this from my ex employer and don't know what to do.

You need to contact them and find out the details and amount they say you were overpaid.
Did you know you had been overpaid at the time?
If they can prove you were overpaid then you will need to arrange a way to pay it back to them as they are in their rights asking for it.0 -
No idea, they paid me a lot less than was expected as I'd taken over my holiday entitlement.0

Reply (in writing) stating that you were not aware of any over payment and ask them to provide evidence for the over payment - details of what was paid, when and what they think was actually due and how they calculated this (so you can see any difference - you'll need details of number of hours worked, pay rate, deductions etc to work out if they have calculated the over payment correctly).
Once they provide all this information, if it works out that you were over paid then you will have to make arrangements to repay it. That doesn't mean you must pay up in 14 days though - you should come to an agreement about a payment plan (depending on how much money it is, but it wouldn't be reasonable to expect someone to pay back any significant sum that they were not aware of owing at such short notice).Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0
