If she works 3 days a week won't she be on better being paid for what she does rather than half pay?
Depending on your income have you checked your benefit entitlement, you may be entitled to working tax credit, or housing and/or council tax benefit?
Also be aware if they don't think she can return to work, they can 'pension her off' as you put it (by which I think you mean terminated on the grounds of ill health) straight away they do not have to wait until her 6 months half pay is up, so don't think that's a given.
Also from the way you say pensioned off I thought it might be worth making it clear that although I suggest you look at her occupational pension be aware that an employer could finish her on the grounds of ill health but that does not make her automatically eligible for her pension, the two criteria are not the same. Do have a look at her occupational pension properly, if it is decided she cannot work again her pension may well be topped up and paid early, which may not be as bad as you think.
Without having details it is hard to advice but also have a look at PIP if she has a long term condition that effects her ability to function. This is a non means tested benefit, so if she is eligible your/her income will not effect the payment.0
