Friday 25th April - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

  • I spent 10 mins making lunch this morning instead of spending £10 on shop sandwiches. Yesterday I took the girls to a themepark we have free tickets to instead of going to a more local play centre and spending £20. I have a treat dinner planned for tonight instead of going to the takeaway. Small steps....

  • Hello all,

Am at work on my lunch break so need to be quick.

Today I've done the packed lunches and hung up washing (inside as a bit grey).

Tonight I need to plan carefully for the weekend. We are going on a University visit with son 2 tomorrow and need to take food and drink and plan for an easy meal when we get home (can do the trip in one day but will be late when we get back). Then I've got my brother coming on Sunday - meeting his "girlfriend" for the first time (they are in their 50's!). I am doing a lunch which was planned and shopped for this week. Need to tidy/clean up a bit too - thank goodness I did all that spring cleaning in the Easter hols.

The good thing about going on a trip tomorrow is that we won't be tempted to go to the pub tonight.

Have a good Friday all :rotfl:

    Hi everyone
This penny pincher is just having a proud moment :0)
Just canceled another 12mth contract @ renewal date. This one is for oven hob combination protection. Saving £7.64 a month or £91.68 for the year.

Protection/insurance they all play on what if?

I cancelled boiler insurance a while ago, at renew date. It favor of getting a local man out to service our boiler when due.

Now we have building/contents insurance, dog insurance and car insurance. All a must have.
Our adult DD pays the dog insurance as part owner.

Penny pinching as always = washed my hair today with a freebie shampoo and conditioner.Air dried hair.
    Uses a free sample toothpaste.

Freebies from postie/parcel person = Robinsons get squashed - makes 20 drinks.
Trial = washing gel for laundry.

Saving gas/electric = heating been off for a few weeks.
Walked around house and found a laptop to unplug as fully charged.
    Read meters on Wednesday.
No washing today as it is raining. night and day. So will do double tomorrow, hope it will be a dry day for line use.

Hm dinner from freezer tonight.= cod in batter, chips and peas.

Having a NSD. AGAIN! even had a no grocery shop this week. We had a big shop last week. Oh went out and bought some milk.

    Have a dfw day.

    Hi Gang,
Welcome back ShootfortheMoon. Bet your holiday was fab. I have zero wanderlust for foreign climes myself but always like to know others have had a good time!
    Today's small things:
*Big Budget Day. Oh yes....it's 14.57 & I have so far spent ALL DAY reconciling April's overspends, putting right bits of money I've borrowed from various budgets, sorting out which Savings Piggies are owed money this month & setting May's budget. I should have budgeted more in April for guests over Easter & gas man, but I still would have squeaked by without the unexpected vets bills. Never mind. If we stick to my budget between now & next payday (end of May), we should be OK. Am about to go downstairs & convey this to mr f, though he is very good at sticking to budgets these days now we are reformed characters.
*Paid both credit cards in full.
*Did a few Onepolls - am less than £3 away from cash-in now & I sooooo want that £40 for the bathroom fund, which has had nothing of note added to it for a while now because of other expenses.
*Did a titchy interim meal plan just for the next couple of days plus a day or two when we get back from my birthday weekend away. mr f popped out for shopping (as it was Calculators at Dawn for me) & stuck to the list.
*Really chilly here today & when it started raining on my washing, I was very tempted to put some heating on to dry stuff I want to pack to take this weekend, but I got a grip, found a cardi & put the heated airer on instead.
That's it for me today. I feel boss-eyed from all the sums/online banking I've been looking at today, so am going to put the kettle on & curl up with my knitting......which hasn't grown much at all recently & needs to be finished as it's for a birthday gift.
    Cheers,
    f x

  • Just to update.

    * OH got a fancy posted invite to "Experience Porsche" which we have resisted (gave us a really good laugh - will be sticking with our battered but reasonably trusty Ford).
    * Sold 6 small items on Ebay (probably around £16 profit but every little helps).
    * Made potato wedges and burgers for the menfolks tea, I had a ready meal diet curry (contradiction?) that has been lurking in the bottom of the freezer.
    * Am poised to make butties and a flask in the morning for our trip. Getting a pasta sauce out of the freezer so we can make an easy tea when we get home.
    * Have arranged for Son 1's girlfriend to dog sit (she is happy to do so in return for a meal).
    * Washing is building up. Need to get another load hung up before we go tomorrow. Am determined not to tumble dry!:A

Too tired to do any knitting or anything other than watching the box this evening.

    Good night all!
  • Late one for me today but I have....

    Checked banks
    Made PAD
    Checked mobile usage
    Avoided spending at work
Took car rather than getting train to work as I have car full of fuel and don't get paid till Wednesday. Ultimately I saved £6.10 on train fares
    Packed lunches x 3
Grounded DS2 meaning he missed school disco ;) lol
Finished my library books and left them out to return tomorrow and avoid a fine
Signed DS1 up for 2 after school clubs which are free

    That's all guys

    Night night x
