Getting nowhere fast

Hi
Does anyone else sometimes feel like their getting nowhere fast?
I've been a member on here since the end of April and I'm desperatley trying to sort myself and address my debts.
I try to follow the lead of some people on here who are paying masses off their debts and you can see the totals going down really quickly and my eyes light up and I think I can be really good and do the same. But I just feel like it's never ending. I was going to pay my mum back some of the debt that I owe her at £50 a week but then had to pay the dentist and now my car exhaust so I can't start to pay her till about 3 weeks time.
Just wondered if anyone else felt like this sometimes?

Yes, def. My debt is slowly creeping up at the mo! As much as I pay off I seem to need to borrow back, and I'm fed up of trying so hard and getting nowhere!

I know EXACTLY what you mean, I thought I was doing so well with my not spending etc, then out of the blue my car breaks down 50 miles from home! AA come out, are not able to fix car but the cover I have means I can't get home, so I end up paying 93.50 to upgrade my membership to get home. Then I get a bill for £220 for a new clutch for the car. Then I get gas and electric bills totalling £120.
Its like a 1 step forward, 3 steps back feeling sometimes. Sometimes I feel like giving up, but then I come back on here and read some more posts and feel better about it.
I have good days and bad days, am guessing others on here are the same?
Sometimes I am sick of eating veggie soups for my lunch when others in my office have lovely bought sandwiches etc but you just have to stick with it I think. Give yourself a day off now and then. I had an egg sarnie and a packet of crisps from sainsburys a couple of days ago, cost me £1.25 but was just such a nice change so I really appreciated it.0 -
Hiya
Just wanted to add my support. I was always feeling like this as those little things that you've not budgeted for keep coming up and kicking you up the bum. However, I did get there and never thought I would so you'll all be able to do it too. Good luck xxJanuary budget

Hi Boo,
Definitely. There's some people on these boards that I am jsut completely in awe of how much they do and how much they manage to pay back each month, but what I have figured is that there's not much point comparing myself to other people.
Pre-LBM though, what would you have done with the dentist & car exhaust? My guess is just shove it on the CC without even thinking about it, whereas now you're having to delay making a debt overpayment (I'm calling it that as I'm sure your mum is 0% loan & she's hardly likely to put a default on your credit file!)
It's not an easy road we're all on, but at least we've got company!Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

Hi Boo
It's not easy when things look like they are going slowly. Which is why every now and then I look at just how far I can come. I work out how much money I've saved myself, how much I've paid off/cancelled and then I think about my change in attitude. Which is where the biggest change has come, I realise and now work and making sure my outgoings are less than my incomings (just about managed it this month) it's all the little things that add to the journey.
I would love it to be easy and wake up one day with it all paid, but unfortnately unless I win the lottery that isn't going to happen. So I am going to make sure I learn some lessons out of this very long debt free journey and promise myself I will never be in this situation again.
But try to look on the bright side and keep smiling. It may be hard, but it will be worth it in the end.Current debt - £16,300
Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
Thanks for the support so far
Storm I completly agree that I really am in awe of those people on here who have or still are working really hard to pay debts off and become debt-free. I just feel like I'm lagging behind because every time I want to make a payment something else crops up.
It's a good point about putting the dentist and exhaust on the CC but I think i probably would have asked my parents to pay and not paid them back for about 6 months but they lent me the money for my car on wednesday and when I got paid on Thursday they got it straight back with both me and them were really proud of.
Just think the £300 I've paid the dentisit could have cleared a chunk from the CC0 -
I know the feeling. I'm trying to spend alittle less time on this site as I think its starting to make me I'll.
I've got so into it, made all the changes post LBM and now I'm in the boring paying it off stage.
I sometimes worry that I'm too tight! Although, that does have its perks!Starting debt @ LBM: £8436.51 (8/5/7)
Barclaycard: £5804.52 (May 07) - 6.9% LOB Now: £5315.25
Egg: £1640.99 (May 07) - 1.9% May 08 - Now: £1242.69

Hello,
I really know what you feel like this month... I'm a bit down about my slow progress too.
My fone will went from £28 to £43 this month only because I hit the internet button instead of the snooze in my alarm whcih cost me £15. Had my car service (£75) and need to replace the two front tyres of my car (over £100) plus my windscreen wipers (£10). Have my car insuance coming up and also RAC membership due up at the end of this month.
I also helped my friend recently who was overspending to budget. She has no mortgage and lives at home with a bigger salary to mine and she is doing so much better than me and she's only been at it for a month
I really admire some of the other people in the board who seem to do so well plus look after their families. Its just me myself I've got to look out for plus my parents and my boyfriend help me out occasionaly. Just wish the numbers would look better more quickly

Hi
I definately know what you mean - it gets to a point where you think it is never going to end and want to throw the towel in. My debt is over £60,000 and it seems to be going nowhere which I assume is because of the large amount. You will get there though! xx0 -
Lucy makes a very good point (damn, why don't I think of these things)
By taking the sometimes slow, difficult route to clear the debts we learn so many lessons, not just about money but about ourselves and our motivations. By the end of journey, not only will we be debt free, but we'll have put in place mechanisms to ensure we do not end up in the same situation again, not to mention a faster typing speed from coming on here so much
