Debt free by 35...

Hi,

So, I have quite a few different debts to pay off. I am hoping to be debt free by the time I am 35 (about 3 years) so I can go travelling in New York.

I am doing well in that I have sorted my finances and now have a new card where my salary is going into.

My only vice now is not taking lunches into work - I have loads of food at home, but still don't seem to be able to.

Today I started by just bringing in about £4 and leaving the rest of my cash at home. I still have my cards but am going straight home after work and don't need to buy anything on the way.

I hope a diary can help me to keep track - and reading others is motivating me.

Thanks!

  • So, I just paid another £25 off my business overdraft...I made an agreement to do this each week, just to get it out of the over over draft limit. Quite depressing, but I'm determined to clear this one first...I also need to pay something off a credit card that is only £79, but I can't afford to pay it off all at once annoyingly.

At least it's something and the bank won't be harassing me too much!
  • Hi Vegedebt, thought I would say hi - well done on getting the finance sorted and only taking a certain amount of cash to work, thats a good starting point!

I would love to be debt free by 35 too - am 31 at the moment so theres still time!

  • Hi Mrs S - Feels like a long way off, but I am sure we can do it! my next step is bringing all lunches to work - I did today, but still bought the extra drink and chocolate as snacks...:(

I also cancelled my Netflix subscription - only £5.99 a month, but it was ruining my brain lol and there's plenty to watch on 4oD etc if I feel the need...I also have a load of books that I could be reading, but am not...

    How are you managing yours?

    :)

    Hi

I'm lucky as I'm living in a family flat paying rent, but at some point I would like to take over the mortgage....good luck with your quest too! I even had a good weekend, having good friends who have helped out meant I could go to a friends birthday dinner and party, and I only spent £15.

I've also got leftovers for lunch tomorrow, and am reducing my budget to £40 instead of £50 (including travel).

Also, my loan will be reduced to under £7000 when the next payment goes out tomorrow so there's an end in sight!

Just need to resist the urge to go summer clothes shopping as I am also on be quest to be minimalistic...

Good luck this week everyone :)

Still working out how to use this site! I've been paying little bits of here and there, but today they chased me for £50 ;( still, trying to think of it as a positive. I dislike that they don't seem to understand I work full time and can't get into a branch to sort out problems...argh well it's done now!
