Can't switch!
Hi. I moved to rented accommodation in October 2013. The property was unoccupied for the previous 12 months and has only electric storage heaters with a complex meter which can take Economy 7 and Economy 10 (purely for the storage heaters). The electricity supplier is npower but when I registered with them they told me that I was on a standard rate for everything as they no longer deal with complex meters or do Economy 7 or 10. I have since found out that not many companies do! However I was given a quote by E.on but they insisted that I have to give them 12 months usage data and will not consider switching me until I provide this. Is this right? Do I have to continue for a further 6 months paying exorbitant prices for electricity before I can switch supplier? Can anyone help?

Nonsense information from nPower. All suppliers offer E7 tariffs, but very few support E10.
I'm not clear if a meter can be a dual E10 or E7 one-if it''s the former then you would need a meter change (around £60) to go to E7. Suggest you post a meter pic.
The existing supplier should be able to tell you the last 12m billed usage on each register, or just use estimated kWh figures.
Running NSH's on a single rate tariff would be insane. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Please post a picture of this complex metering you describe, as I have never heard of a single domestic property supplied on both E7 and E10 at the same time.
Presumably you have 2 separate supplies, 2 separate meters and 2(3?) separate MPANS?
If so, in theory you should be able to switch the E7 supply, but in practise that may be difficult because of more than 1 MPAN registered to the same address.
Suppliers usually have no choice of tariff for E10, that's why you are on the only one they offer.
No you do not need to stay with a supplier for 12 months to find out what your 12 months usage was before being permitted to switch. The 12 months usage aonly allows the supplier to better estimate your monthly DD amount, but without the figure they will estimate it based on other criteria.
How on earth did you get a quote from E.on based on the set up you describe??? :huh:0 -
Thank you so much to the guys that replied.
I can't take a photo right now but the information I can give you is that it's a Horstmann Radio Telemeter Series 2A installed in 2001. It's a dual EMPAN meter and it's labelled E7 Heatwise.... I get 5 readings off it albeit one of them is 00000. Is that any help? Will supply photo as soon as possible... Thanks again0
