Question regarding end dates/winner announced

Options
Apologies if this has been discused before, I couldn't find anything.

I just wondered what the protocol is regarding the posting of comps which say winner announced (for instance) 29/04. Should it therefore have an end date of 28/04?

I ask because I've seen a lot of these recently and I know it can be a problem for end daters (yes, I know they/we should possibly enter earlier but that's not always feasible) but, I just think that winner announced on whatever date means that the comp really finished the day before.

What are your thoughts on this?

BTW, I'm not criticising anyone who takes the time and effort to post competitions, you're all amazing, I'd just like everyone to have the same opportunity to enter.

I tend to put the end date as 1 or 2 days before the winner announcement and make a note in the post that that's what I've done. :)

Thanks JessicAhh, I know most of the regular posters do this as a rule of thumb and it's very much appreciated! :T

It's just today I noticed there were at least eight instances of comps with an end date of today which were actually winner announced today (mostly in the morning).

An example of my approach is here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4936034

I am not saying it is perfect but just trying to cover all bases.Plus if a comp ends at 10am as most Johnston Press comps do I date it for the day before.

    Cheers sydroo.

I must say that I try & cater for the enddaters but in all honesty it is not a comping format that I would endorse.

I tend to use a mix of these:

Me too - closing comps, that way lies madness and a lot of wasted time as the dreaded autopilot takes you over and you feel you have to enter EVERYTHING.
