Contractor mortgage

    Now I know you're having a laugh!!

So, your mortgage last month - you phoned a broker and they didn't explain why they were using Halifax and why they couldn't use anyone else? I can assure you that they did not just 'use Halifax anyway'....

Just FYI, with Halifax's MMR implementation beginning 14th April, they now book in a three-hour appointment in branch, rather than just doing it quickly over the phone.

And besides, an MIP is utterly useless, and does NOT confirm that you'll meet the lending criteria, it just confirms that you'll meet their credit score.

Right? Are we having a bad morning or something I came here to help out nothing more.

Furness, personally never used them and have zero context of whether they're any good. For the cost of a phone call it sounds like it would be worth having a chat.

Secondly, I spoke to two brokers and found them to be useless. Both quoted Halifax, neither responded when I needed them to so I just called Halifax directly.

Within two hours (a brutal two hours) everything was arranged and within three days the mortgage was confirmed and ready for the solicitor to withdraw funds.

[edit] MMR is a different kettle of fish. I had my arranged before that came into action. And yes a MIP is a giant red herring and is pretty much meaningless, luckily I went through the entire process.
  • ...so we're pretty much on the same page then.

MMR means that going direct is a whole world of pain now.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Halifax are commonly on the panel of limited panel brokers. That does not make them the 'go to lender' to Contractors.
