Hi Welshlassie, just wanted to drop in to wish you luck. Like you I always want a few houses projects doing so specific saving pots would be a good idea for us too.

Thanks for stopping by and your comments.

Lemanie - I wish I'd found YNAB before I had kids we might well have paid off our mortgage by now and not over spent so much while having kids - although we're now back on track we had to use our savings to pay off a number of credit cards that we built up while on maternity leave.

CathT - have the house projects listed out and a rough cost has made me focus on saving towards them more now, although I've not put much towards them, I'm going to try and make a concerted effort to put something towards them every month.

A bit of spending today, needed some new shoes to leave in work for when I cycle/run in and to get breakfast to leave there as well. If I've got this at my desk I'm less inclined to stop at Subways on the way in. I had to pop out and get some gifts but managed to get some lovely things in Next (of all places) and I'm really pleased with them and didn't spend too much, all budgeted in YNAB as well :)

DH is submitting his assignments this evening and then we have the weekend all together, yay!

He made some yummy falafel tonight - SW recipe and only 44 calories each cause they are oven cooked and a lot nicer than the packet ones he usually makes - bonus. :D

DD had a v bad tummy at lunchtime so looks like is defo allergic to tuna. :( She was sick a couple of times after trying it as a baby, but it was the other end today after I gave her tuna pasta bake last night. She's ok now, but it means I'm not planning on giving her it again poor sausage was really upset. It's shame though as we go through quite a bit of tuna in our house.

Planning on helping mum with her attic tomorrow and then DS has a party while I do some sorting in our house, if it's dry mowing the lawn and getting my bike ready to take to work next week - I haven't been on it since the end of last summer - fair weather cyclist me :rotfl: - so need to check the tyres and lights are ok and dig out my helmet and gloves, will save a bit of fuel and earn me some more calories and help me loose that last bit of weight :T

Hope everyone has a good weekend

    You Need a Budget

It's an american budgeting methodology and associated software. We found in it July last year and it's completely revolutionised our financial approach. It's an electronic way of doing the envelop system, comes with phone apps as well so you always know how much you have an any category (envelope) without carrying the cash.

    I love it :)

List for the weekend has been added to the notice board - no way I'm going to get through it all, but it can stay up for the next few weeks and we might be able to get through bits over the next few weeks.

Will list here for accountability and progress updates:
    • Decking - clean and paint
    • Dining room - paint gloss work
    • Mow lawn
    • Sort garage
    • Check bike so I can take it to work next week
    • Paint playhouse
    • Sort office (aka as Room of Doom)
    • Filing
    • Ebay (contents in Room of Doom)
    • Paint garage door frame
    • Replace and paint back door frame

Not going to be able to do some this if it's raining but there is plenty to be getting on with inside as well, in addition to the weeks washing, drying, folding and ironing - second load in machine already :D

DS has a party later so hopefully I can do some of it when he's at that, but later this morning off to Mums to put the contents of her attic back in as she's had it insulated so it needs re-boarding and re-stocking - a messy job, but best get it done asap before the temperature increases.

Steak for tea tonight instead of a takeaway and it might even treat myself to a glass of pink vino if I get a few things ticked off the list. :D

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Hope everyone has had a good weekend.

Here's my disappointing progress for the weekend.

Well didn't get much done. DH isn't very well so after we did Mums attic he went home and crashed and I was left taking DS to the party and then fed and put the kids to bed. It was very windy so the half an hour I had I did more washing and folding rather than mow the lawn.

Today hasn't been very productive either, but did manage to get my bike looked at, pumped the tyres up, found my helmet, gloves and sunglasses ready for the morning and cleared part of the garage so I can actually get the bike out.

Church this morning and Messy church this afternoon, which DH was supposed to cater for, but because he's still poorly I ended up shopping for and delivering the food so someone else could prep (I really don't do food prep).

This evening I've done the ironing and most of the washing has now been done. Just the bedding from the van to finish and a batch of towels. They can be done tomorrow.

Think I'll be having an early night as I'm planning on cycling into work in the morning and then running home so a good sleep tonight will be needed. Just as well I'm upping the exercise this week really as my food intake has been poor this weekend. On the scales in the morning, hoping I've not done too much damage as I was was very good last week. Tend to work to 5 and 2 and normally loose.

Back to 5 day week this week after 4 weeks of 3 days - not looking forward to it :(

Hope everyone has a productive week :)

You've just reminded me, I really must get more exercise.

About three years ago, I used to have a walk most days, weather permitting. But the summer of 2012 was so bad, i couldn't get out so much, and never got back into the habit. This must change, as I feel noticeably less fit at the moment. I don't think I'm ever going to back to running or cycling fitness, but I need to get back to walking.

Good luck with your exercise efforts!

I did it! Cycled into work and ran home - 4.75 miles each way. Very pleased with myself. Slow cooked chicken and sweet pot mash (yum yum) was waiting for me when I got home - thank you DH. Just need to do the reverse tomorrow and that's 20 miles worth of fuel saved :) and I don't need to find 2 evenings to go running.

I have a clear evening after the tiddly peeps are in bed. Need to sort out a spreadsheet to reconcile the church account but other that nothing else planned - half an hour. Might try and list a few things on ebay or actually have a quiet evening in front of the box with DH as both me and DH are out tomorrow night and DH is out wed night.

DH also mowed the lawn (front and back) today so one more thing off the list.

Also a NSD for me and only some postage for DH who finally sent his Level 3 6,000 word assignment for assessment, yay!

Paid next Tuesday and most YNAB categories are looking quite healthy :)
