CCJ paid off in chunks??

Hello

Wonder if anyone can help with this.

I recently set up an account with Noddle to sort out my finances (I have a couple of CC's and OD's from my irresponsible Uni days) and really want to get them paid off.

I discovered that I actually have an active CCJ from back in 2008 which I had no idea I had! I have contacted the courts and got the forms back so that I can pay in instalments. I have put that I can pay back £30.00 a month because I don't want to put more than that and find myself too stretched (I have arrangements with some other debts and once they are cleared I can up my payments) but was wondering, if I can also put aside some money is it possible to pay small chunks off a CCJ? (eg, if I can save £100 over a couple of months, can I pay this off the balance?) I work in Debt Management, but in Accounts and dont deal with CCJ's and I dont really want to ask any of my colleagues!

Wasn't sure, as I don't want to be paying £30 a month for the next 5 years but don't want to commit to paying more (say, £100 a month) and finding myself over-stretched

Would be very grateful for any advice!

Thanks in advance :)

    Hello there,

As far as I'm aware it is possible to make extra ad-hoc payments against a CCJ - so long as your creditor is prepared to accept them. Do also bear in mind that the court will only agree to your 'variation application' if the offer of payment is fair & reasonable given your circumstances.

We've a fact sheet that covers the variation process, you can find it *here*.

    Best wishes,

    Hi David,

Thanks for your reply! Yes I realise they will only accept the offer if they deem it fair. The total debt is £1,500 and I have offered £30 a month, which isn't ideal as I would like to have it paid off alot sooner, but I cant afford much else at the moment, as I have a 2 year old in full time nursery and my bills are quite high, I would prefer to offer £30 and know I can afford to maintain the payments and possibly be able to make the odd additional payment to clear it quicker, than offer say £100 a month and find I am unable to continue paying this amount if that makes sense!

I really want to get this cleared off, even though I haven't had any contact from them in almost 6 years!

I have filled out the forms and will see what they come back with. After not hearing anything for almost 6 years I'm sure they will accept, but if not I can probably push if I really, really have to, to £50. I have a few other debts and 1 should be paid off in a couple of months, which will free up another £30 a month which I will be able to put towards it.

Thanks for your help, I just didnt know if me making an additional £100 every few months might make them think why am I not paying more monthly rather than paying random extra payments!
