Mortgage application help

Hi,
I am about to put in a mortgage application with my partner. she currently owns a shared ownership flat, and we do not need the equity from this to buy, can the mortgages overlap? we are in the process of selling the flat but the vendor for our new house wants to complete ASAP so there is likely to be a small overlap which could be as much as 1-2 months.
we can easily afford both, we take home in the region of £3600 a month and have no other debts / car payments other than fuel which we put on CC each month, both mortgages together would be about £1250.
Has anyone done this before? is it even possible?
Thanks a lot!!!

Before you apply, speak to the lender about it.
