When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:
Morning gang
the thread seems slow at the moment! I haven't been posting for agggggeeeeessssssss because I was snowed under with work, went to Brazil for 3 1/2 weeks (was AMAZING!) and since I've been back I'm trying to "live in the real world" more!
Still keeping my eye on the small things though
Plans for today:
* [STRIKE]checked banking & cc statement[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]Working from home today, save petrol & time
[/STRIKE]
*[STRIKE] LO pork for dinner - going to make a pork & pearl barley stew, substituting the ingredients in the recipe for ones I have in stores
[/STRIKE]
* Do shred at some point
* [STRIKE]transfer a free book to my kindle from library we have[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]* use up roll & little LO spag for lunch[/STRIKE]
*[STRIKE] did a google search & discovered you can freeze eggs. I have 3 eggs that are past their use by date but have withstood the cold water freshness test
[/STRIKE]
* wash inside of greenhouse tonight
* sow some seeds
* [STRIKE]load of washing[/STRIKE]
* bath, blow dry hair & do eyebrows this evening
* [STRIKE]call up santander & open 2nd 123 account[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]call adult ed about booking a course & how I will pay for it (want to do it in installments!)[/STRIKE] booked
paid one installment of £28 and then will pay 4 monthly payments of £21 :T
Ok think that's all I'll have time for. Have a great day everyone x

Hi all
Haven't posted all weekend as it's difficult to get onto the laptop without my son wanting to see the CBeebies website! All spends over Easter weekend from budget thankfully - £30 left in grocery budget and £15 in entertainment until Monday (payday).
My things today:
1. Check online banking - all fine.
2. Check Quidco - £2.96 in there now so withdrawn and will pay off CC when it arrives in my bank.
3. Check Ebay - a few small sales so check bill then withdraw the rest - pay off CC when it arrives in my bank.Post items using RM survey stamps.
4. B, L, D and snacks from stores.
5. Submit Mystery Dining report - £30 reimbursement to go to OH as he paid bill on his CC.
6. Finalise change to SIM only deal - should save me around £20 a month and also £60 Quidco payment if it tracks!
7. Check over spreadsheet for payday - shift extra money into driving lessons savings as lessons start next week (first 3 hours free).
8. Freepostcodelottery and Birthdaybingo.
9. Inbox Pounds clicks.
10. Enquire about whether old mobile contract pre-payment will be applied to new bill - yes it will.
11. Collected free Neal's Yard face moisturiser (via O2 Priority) and free Krispy Kreme doughnut.
12. Free tea and biscuits in Virgin Money Lounge.
I think that's everything, have happy DFW days all x0 -
Morning all,
Well, I'm having a busy day of getting back to normal after having a house full of family staying over Easter weekend. So far, the money saving bits are:
*Big load of guest bed linen washed overnight on Economy 7 tariff.
*Drying on heated airer. Cheaper option than putting radiators back on. Can't line dry as it has been pouring with rain all morning.
*Turned the fridge out & managed to incorporate lots more leftovers into packed lunches & work snacks.
*Did rubber lamb. Lots leftover from Easter Sunday. Made a large shepherd's pie, lamb madras & some slices in onion gravy.
*Leftover bacon to be used for tonight's meal.
*Checked seedlings for pests/problems. Seem OK, but in need of some warmth now.
*All heating now switched off at the wall & will not be going on again until October.
*Do quick meal plan for rest of this week, prioritising leftovers. Thankfully we shouldn't need to shop as we are over budget this month & don't want to make it worse.
*Get cracking with current knitting project which I need to finish this week as have another birthday gift to knit over the next month.
*Top up runner bean trench with more kitchen scraps ready for planting out in 6 weeks or so.
Hope everyone not too 'chocolated out' (I am!) & having a productive day.
Nice to see you back DNMS - glad Brazil was a good 'un!

Back to the grindstone!0 -
Afternoon everyone
It has been a week of spending. Sh.... I know. Mostly needs though and not wants.
New car insurance and rescue. We have one small car.
New Virgin 12 month contract = 50mb - BB, M+ tv and M - phone.
Husbands B/Day = used Tesco club points and £6
Gifts - Easter eggs = £22
Ok, my want or is it a need? Bought myself some Birkenstock slip on shoes. £30. But wait! I did use £20 in vouchers from surveys done.
So spent £10 in real money. I have heard alot about Birkenstock so wanted to try them.
I wear these type of shoes every day.
Fuel saving as always. CH has been off totally for several weeks.
Dried some washing overnight in house. Put a load on the line this afternoon after the rain stopped.
Keep unplugging.
Read the meter every week as online customer.
Look daily @ freebie sites. Postie brought x2 Linor sachets today.
Doing surveys and trials.
Reading free ebook on kindle and reading paper online.
Helped plant courgette seeds in washed out plastic food tubs. ( no buying seed trays.)
Potted on some plants.
Went for a walk - free exercise.
Craft = knitting. nearly finished at last! onto the button band now.
Have a penny pinching day.The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
Well, I managed to 'keep the faith' for the rest of today as
*Turned heated airer off when rain finally stopped this afternoon & pegged washing out on line.
*Set timer on washer for another cheap load of laundry tonight.
*Knitted another 12cms of friend's present. Doesn't sound like much but it's 2.5mm needles.
*Entered a competition.
*Did a few surveys. Less than £5 to go now till One poll cash-in.
*Ordered a book for the present box using latest Amazon voucher from the Heinz Forum I'm on at the moment.
*Did a lot of thinking about money stuff. Really need to step up payments into our new bathroom fund. Various expenses in March/April have resulted in us not being able to save as much as planned. We also went over budget on a couple of things in April, which I will need to pull round when I set May's budget at the end of this week. Think will keep my brain ticking over on this & see what I can come up with.
La E - Sorry it's stressful. Yes, having to put council tax on a cc must have felt horrible, like you were going in the wrong direction, but hopefully things will progress fully with the house sale now & things will come right. I think this is one of those situations where things have no choice but to get a little worse before they get better. Fingers & toes crossed!

ha it must be the day for feeling glum! Sorry to hear you were crying La E. You're almost there, try not to fret, it must be a nightmare paying the mortgage & the expensive rent on top. Not long now. Is there a chain?
Feeling a bit fed up too! We had gardeners here yesterday and today to give us quotes for doing some of the more skilled work - relaying patio/putting in decking, laying turf and me and oh were talking about the one who came round today compared to yesterday's. I said I had more confidence in the one today & oh said yeah the ones yesterday kept giving each other looks. This has now sent me off in to paranoia about being judged over my house...
When will I learn, never do other people's thinking for them never ends up with me thinking their thinking good things! Ho hum, should I get on and clean or let it drift from my mind??!DF as at 30/12/16
