in Cutting tax
Hi I was wondering if someone could advise me if my tax code is correct? I was made a widow in april last year at the age of 29 and as we have a young daughter I was awarded a widows dependants pension. I am now working full time and my tax code for the new tax year is now 175L and last year it was 357L (from memory). Now I thought as my widows allowance equates to £6240 a year this would be deducted my personal allowance of £10k and the remainder would make up part of my tax allowance. I have just received a promotion at work and the small pay rise I have received has been swallowed up by tax. I will call the tax office tomorrow but I just wondered if anyone could give any advice before I call them. thanks.

Do you receive a widow's pension from your late husband's pension scheme?
Does your child receive a pension from the same scheme? If so, is this regarded as your child's income or yours?
How much taxable benefit will you receive from the state in this tax year?
Do you receive any other income that is not taxed at source?
What will your total gross employment income be for this tax year?0 -
you would have been sent a coding notice (Form P2) which explained how code 175 was calculated - what does it say?0

That would normally be the case, yes. However there are obviously other deductions coming off which could be for anything such as underpaid tax etc.
Your P2 Coding Notice would be the best place to start as we can only guess.0
