U.S consulate

Hello, I'm hoping to pick your brain, my DD is going to Camp America this summer and has to get a visa, it's much cheaper and looks easier for her to fly from Glasgow to George Best Airport than it is to fly to London.
So can anyone tell me if it is only about 15mins from the airport to the consulate, also she has a few hours to spare before her flight back, is it central for her to shop, eat etc, thanks in advance.

Sorry a worried mum here, even though she is going to America for months, that is all organised and accompanied, but this will be her first experience of finding her own way about a strange city on her own.

Consulate is roughly 15 minutes from the airport so that's right. If your DD has time to spare then the city centre is only a few minutes away. Victoria Square hosts the bigger named shops and is 5-10 minutes from the Consulate and 5-10 minutes from the airport depending on traffic.

Thank you very much for your quick reply, I did as much research as I could and that was what I thought but to have it confirmed is great.
I can rest easy and let her get on with her first "experience" :o

Be aware that she might be kept waiting for several hours... the time of her appointment is approximate.

Perhaps a visa agent would cost less than an air ticket?
  • My dd has done the camp thing for the past 6 summers. The belfast consulate are great to deal with and have the drill down pat. Also, there's a lot less chance of her getting lost in belfast than London.

Thank you to all who have replied, Voyager2002, i've never heard of a visa agent before but her flight is booked now anyway, thanks though, if she does it in the future it will be worth looking into.
In need of direction, well done to your DD for doing it for 6 years, it is a fantastic experience for them, I'm so pleased she's getting the chance, yet a little part of me will miss her for all those weeks, who am I kidding a massive part of me will miss her lol.

Thanks again everyone, I know she will be fine and can spend her time shopping for her camp while she has those hours free in between flights.

    She will be fine :)

Quick and simple 5 min Bus/taxi from airport to city centre. Easy to navigate round city centre, and plenty of food choice.
  • Visa agents are a waste of space and money for this.

Be aware of what items can be taken into the consulate. Find a decent locker rental place.
  • Also, there's a massive primary bang in the centre of belfast. Lots of camp suitable cheap clothes.
