Etiquette regarding promoting own competitions

1, I'm not getting worked up, in fact I'm quiet calm Thank You. I was just asking a question regarding a rule which I don't understand
2, My blog is not a smaller version of MSE. MSE post all types of comps, I find & post certain types of comps RC's Gleam Widgets, Punch Tabs, Comment Comps. Yes MSE does post some of these but not the amount I find
3, I stopped posting comps on here when the bullying started to impact on my healthThis Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0 -
But I have nothing to gain from sharing my blog.
I understand bloggers who post comps want to get their blog views up so they get picked for more products to review & keep plus more company's will offer products for comps.
But I don't do any of that. None of my own comps & no products tested.
It makes no difference to me if one person follows me or one million & one person follows me
I have no flashy ads to gain income from either
All I get is knowing more people can enter the comps I find
So that's why i don't understand
A total ban makes sense.
Income/freebies are much easier to come by if there is already an established large user base - (to be clear I am not saying you would switch) - but that is how self-promotion could benefit a blog even if there is no direct gain at the moment.
There is also no way to know if a blog makes a gain or not from self-promotion and mse does not have the resources to try and check either.0 -

Thank You mjm,
That makes sense. I can understand now why there is a ban even on blogs that do not gain anything, because they "might" in the future.
Though it is something I won't ever do unless I signed something to say I won't in the future MSE could not be sure.
Thank You :beer:This Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0 -

Umm, yes you do. Your views go up, your google page rank will possibly increase over time, your blog website will be advertised when people look for certain terms on google.... etc, etc - obviously not straight away but over time if people visit your blog to look for comps.I understand bloggers who post comps want to get their blog views up so they get picked for more products to review & keep plus more companies will offer products for comps.
Actually, from personal experience, it's to encourage more people to enter. I, as a blogger, enjoy offering some great prizes to my readers - I wouldn't be able to do that without a company helping. Which wouldn't happen if just 10 people entered, for example
The rules are there for a reason, it's just a shame that people ignore themThanks to all posters :A0 -

But it doesn't
I have all ready explained I gain nothing from anyone visiting my page. I did not start the blog with the aim to make any money from it, so why would it make any difference to me?. The only way you would gain from more people visiting your sight would be if you were holding comps, product testing Or had ads which you gain money by people clicking on them. I'm not & never will be doing any of those things. I would not gain anything by my blog going up in the ranks. It does not effect me where my blog is on searches

Which I "think" is the same as I said but the other way around
The rules are there for a reason, it's just a shame that people ignore them
I just seem to fall between the cracks of the rule
But I do understand it is a rule & what mjm said that I could in future start adding my own comps (Which I Wont) but understand why the rule is there for that reasonThis Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0
