Advice for son please, zero hour contract

I'm hoping someone can help give my son advice.I'm fuming so cant think straight right now.
My son(20 and still living at home with us) took a job 3 or 4 weeks ago with domino pizza.
They told him its full time work although the most hours he has had is 15 hours. It is zero hour contract, but states on his time sheet hes full-time. For the last two weeks he has only been given 2 days a week totaling in 2.5 hours. This is payed at £5 odd as hes under 21.
When he asked his boss why hes only doing 2 days he is being told its because they are training other people. They seem to be doing this with all the staff....an hour here an hour there.
I don't make my son pay out for rent or food as I feel he has the rest of his life to pay out for this and I'd like him to save a little for a rainy day.
My question is this.......can he claim anything to help to boost his income?
I know nothing about benefits and he doesn't want to be on them.
He is applying for other jobs but not getting much response at the moment. So frustrated for him.
Thank you in advance for any words of wisdom.

If working less than sixteen hours he can claim JSA, but if he is earning more than £63 he will not receive any payment. He would be best to seek alternative employment.0

As above...if he wants more hours he'll be better off finding a new job and then turning down the hours offered if they conflict with the new job. As a zero hours worker he has the right to turn down any work at any time but they may not offer any more hours in the future.
If he doesn't want to be on benefits then this will be his best chance to get a reference to find a better job in the future. They'll understand...as long as they are fair they should understand that he needs more hours and should be able to give a good reference when he gets a better job offer elsewhere.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Thank you both for replying.
He wants to stay just for the reference.
I have told him to just keep applying for more jobs one will come sooner or later.
I think the most he has taken home is £50 ish a week, but last 2 weeks only £10 odd. Hes going to see what happens over the next few weeks before deciding what to do....mean while he will keep sending his c.v out.
Thank you again for the advice. :beer:0
